They have an automated voice that wants you to tell it why you're calling. Then you tell it and it actually takes a few minutes to pretend that it's typing in something, you even hear typing noises. WHY?

Maybe so you know you didn't get disconnected while it's "thinking".

There really should be a 'rants' section of the forum you can post threads like this since it's not a PSA and doesn't have a damn thing to do with the iPhone...

So basically it's the same as every other company's customer service line, lol.

Skeuomorphism isn't limited to visual design, and when done well can convey a sense of whimsy and playfulness that some people find amusing. Perhaps that's why.

I always just keep pressing 0 or random buttons until I get forwarded to someone real with all those things. They are so annoying

No corporation wants to hear from you. They make it unpleasant in order to dissuade you.

Apple can be especially annoying because there are no problems and everything just works. And you know your every question is answered when you click the help menu...

The sales lines, however, are a different story. Prompt and pleasant service.

Unfortunately, no one does, but the most annoying thing is when u have a question about more than one product, and/or general info, tech info, the options are either split up amoung, or are not even listed at all.

Thus, the user is forced to see what one would it best come under.

While others just don't give u an option to speak to a customer service rep, which only prompts you to hang up and come on MR :)

Particularly for me, because when i can speak to someone, Apple doesn't give me a good response, since they have go be general about it. Either its secret info, or they just choose not to tell you, Probably the later, which only frustrated u even further because, "you just spend 15 minutes on hold to nothing"

In actual fact, most of the questions i have a already know, I just want to confirm directly from Apple, however quite often they never directly answer. Which doesn't really help me at all.

I remember reading a study years ago about how automated customer service lines have basically destroyed the customer service experience by adding unnecessary time to the service call and escalating the frustration of an already frustrated customer.

It doesn't help that the technology has barely advanced since they were introduced.

What I find especially irritating, and even a little dirty, is those lines that try to get slick and use a number other than "0" to transfer you to a live person.
