Has anyone ripped the software from the Apple TV and ran it with a computer?? I assume its easily doable with a mac.... how about installing apple TV on a windows based computer??

Lets see how many people get upset over this one... Basically is the software from it available to download anywhere.

Yeah, it's been done. I tried it a while back ago. It works great, but you have to reboot to get out of it. It's floating around on the torrent sites. Now, there's really no reason to do this, as Front Row is pretty much an Apple TV on a Mac.

it has been done, also people have replaced their front row with appletv, instructions are on other sites, wont work on windows. and its pretty pointless doing this sort of thing as software updates alway disable things and nothing ever works properly, i remember puting front row on my powermac g5, had to re hack it every front row or itunes update.

Does front row support the same things that the new apple tv does... eg. rentable hd content?
