A couple of weeks ago, I dropped off an iPad 5th gen that worked perfectly, but needed a replacement charge port (was loose, and charging intermittently). I was told that the repair would take 1 week, due to the part having to be ordered. It took 2.5 weeks.

I sent my daughter to pick it up. She paid and received the iPad, only to find that there was now a huge bubble under the screen. She asked for them to fix that and was told to return in 30 minutes. She came back and found that there were now what appeared to be scratches under the screen. She called me and I had her request a refund while they fixed it, and that we would return the next day to pay for it and pick it up.

We came back the following day. They had "reverted" the repair (by presumably de-soldering the entire charge port connector), and had somehow either disconnected the battery or discharged it completely (along with a few "extra" fingerprints under the screen). They said that they thought that she didn't want to pay, so they couldn't leave it repaired?! There is no way to tell if the screen even works now.

I explained the miscommunication and asked them to complete the original repair and I would pick it up later that week. They said that the manager would not allow them to do any work on the unit. Very frustrating and very unprofessional. All we ever wanted was for the unit to be repaired, and in the same shape that we brought it in. We never asked for them to revert anything!?

I'm so frustrated and disappointed. I don't even know where to take it now, or what else was done/undone to it.

It sounds like they may have even damaged it? I don’t know what country you’re in but there must be something you can do in this case, surely?

I live in the U.S. This franchise shop was in Machesney Park, IL. I'm guessing small claims court?

The filing fee is worth more than the 2017 iPad. Sure, you can get it back if you win, but how much documentation do you have with regards to the original and current state of the device?

File a legal complaint.

there
that company would not touch MY ipad 5th 2017 lightning port in the east coast from 2019-2020 june
the reason why was the procedure included soldering out the logic board and replacing the entire cassis,
their manager told me in nov 2019, march 2020.
if this is the same ipad, someone there broke their company regulation.

Have not used them simply because I was quoted twice what the phone was worth for a display replacement. Not entirely their fault obviously… Pixel 2 XL display btw.

Used them on a screen replacement for iPhone SE (2016), no issues with the operation and it was about $95.
