Ive found an interesting situation that pertains only to my iPad. When I type on my Logitech Slim Combo keyboard, the apostrophe key doesn’t work. Thankfully the autocorrect fills in half the time.

I know the key is not completely dead Because if I press the shift button I can get the “ to type out. But I cant get any apostrophes. The apostrophe does work on the iPad software keyboard though.

So, I thought maybe my keyboard was bad. I go and buy ANOTHER Logitech Slim Combo. I happily attach it to my iPad since I’m happy to be writing unhindered again. Lo and behold, that apostrophe key doesn’t work either. I’m thinking it must be an iPadOS bug?

Newsflash! The ampersand key is gone too. On BOTH keyboards. It’s an iPadOS bug.

If you’re not on the Beta. STAY AWAY. Yes, I’m on todays Beta 3. 10.5” iPad Pro.

Oddly, Bluetooth keyboards don’t seem affected. Only keyboards that hook up through the side port.

Be wary when using any sort of beta!

The idea of being on the betas is to find and report these bugs using the built in reporting feature. If you’re not on the beta to participate in bug testing, what are you doing on the beta?

Go into settings/general/keyboard/hardware keyboard. Assuming you are in the U.S., change the keyboard from Automatic to English (US), even if it already says English (US) with “Automatic” in the right margin. That will bring back the missing ‘.

Thank you! That fixed it.

Update! Issue is fixed in new 13.4.5 Beta.

The settings/general/keyboard tip didn’t work for me. But thankfully I can type on my favorite Logitech keyboards again.

OMG, I just found this thread after posting one. Trying this now. I lost pipe which makes running bash commands over ssh nigh impossible!

Thanks for the tip. I just received the Logitech Combo Touch and it wasn't registering the apostrophe key (official iOS 13.4.1). Manually switching to US keyboard fixed the issue.

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU!! I thought my keyboard had gone bad until I realized I could type the “ but not the ‘. Then I knew it had to be a bug. This fixed it. I was tiring of sounding like Data as I typed my messages....

Thank you so much! I have 5 days left of remote teaching and I was losing my mind without the apostrophe!!

I meant to thank you and I replied to the wrong post. I was just so excited to fix this thing! :)

Thanks to the OP for phrasing the question in a way that allowed Google to put it at the top of the search list — even above hits like “10 Best Deals on Apostrophe Missing“ — and many thanks for this correct response. You saved me a trip to Logitech’s Gawd Awful tech support site.

MacRumors needs a “best answer” button!

Going to SETTINGS/GENERAL/HARDWARE KEYBOARD worked for me, but I didn't have the "English" option on mine, so I had to choose US International PC (because the option that only says "US" didn't do the trick). That solved the problem for me. Curiously, I switched back to automatic shortly after and I had the apostrophe and the ampersand key available again. So it seems like you might be able to fix it by switching it to English or US International PC (because US didn't work for me) and then switching it back to Automatic, if you are someone like me who likes to keep things the way they were.
