Has anyone got a X5690 to work in a Xserve 3,1

So far I can't seem to find anyone who has pulled this off. According to this thread, https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-pro-cpu-compatibility-list.1954766/ , it looks possible. I have been reading up though and I can't seem to find anyone who patched the firmware for the Xserve just the Ma c Pro.

Has anyone pulled this off and can it be done?

He flashed the XServe3,1 firmware over to a MacPro5,1 to enable the newer Westmere CPUs.

You'd need to redo the flash on the dual-cpu board also.

Yea for sure. Do u know if u can boot the dual board with a single cpu in it?

I haven't tried, but I would expect it to boot it only CPU A is installed correctly, and not expect it to boot if only CPU B is installed correctly.

Correct. On dual CPU trays, if you put one CPU in Socket A and a stick of RAM in socket 1 it will boot.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead... Do you use the 4,1 -> 5,1 firmware upgrade tools and firmware to do this to an xserve? I'm rescuing an '09 xserve that's been languishing on a shelf for a few years to run some mac VMs and builds, loading it up with ram and ssd and hopefully x5690's

I extracted the mac pro boot rom from the last version of mojave and used rom tool to install.
