My daughter dropped mine and it has some hairline cracks. I tried to get the screen replaced at a trusted repair place and they said the parts are on backorder for 2 weeks or more. The only other option that I am finding is to use Apple and they charge a whopping $450 if you don't have apple care plus ( I do not). Does anyone else have any suggestions on a cheaper option to get it repaired?

I truly dont mean for this to sound elitist but how in the world did you buy an IOS device of this quality without getting AppleCare Plus? I have to be honest I would not recommend any thing other than Apple when it comes to replacing screens. My dad has had two iPhone screen’s replaced (to my same disbelief) by a third party and both have had lots f problems (random registered touches etc...)

This is why I almost didn't even post. I have had Ipads for years and never gotten Apple Care Plus and never had this happen before. I made a mistake. I get it. On to people with actual solutions please.

I’m in the exact same boat. Think of it this way: the money we saved not buying AppleCare all those times pays for the screen repair by Apple. I’m holding off though. Either I’ll get years from this iPad with the crack, or it will get worse and I will be forced to repair or replace. I won’t go the route of a cheap repair though.

I understand that but the solution is you buy it from Apple. There are no third party screen replacements that are up to standard. That’s the actual solution.

Hey—I’m with you. I have never bought Apple Care Plus in all the years I’ve owned Apple devices. If I smashed my iPad to bits right now and bought a new one, I’d still be in the black after all the years I didn’t pay extra for the coverage.

Apple isn’t in the business of replacing any iPad screen, solely unit replacements.

I always buy AC, but have a question for everyone as it seems to be a topic here.

What do you do once your product reaches the 2 years? After that it's not covered anymore. Does Apple have a secret policy for ex-AC payers who have an accident after it runs out? I've tended to upgrade to the next model within the 2 year window, but am wondering how AC payers feel about keeping their devices after it runs out. What do you do?

?

the policy is no secret. if you need service post warranty/apple care you paid the out of warranty cost.

Which is why for those who do not file very many claims over the life of their AC coverage they may be better off not getting AC at all. The value (some call it peace of mind) of having AC is a subjective thing; just because I get it and may never use it over the 2 year lifespan of the coverage doesn’t mean someone else should follow suit.

If you buy it on a semi decent card they will extend AC+ by a year.

Also. Depending on location try some ethnic places. Indian, Chinese, Korean , Mexican mobile repair shops. Way cheaper.

My mums IPP stopped charging. Apple wanted 450 usd. As also did the official apple shop in the country where she lives. Took it to an off the books repair place. For it done for Usd 50.

There is really no good option to get iPad Pro screen replaced. No cheap option.

It’s stupid to pay $450 plus taxes to replace iPad Pro screen with Apple when a brand new iPad Pro 64gb 10.5 is usually on sale for $500-525 almost each month for the part 8-9 months. Plus a new iPad Pro is around the corner.

The best is to wait till next month and try to pick up a iPad Pro 2017 10.5 model on clearance. Maybe pick one up for $350 or so when they have close out sales.

Sorry unless you got some cellular 512gb iPad Pro 10.5 for $1000. It’s simply not worth fixing and just live with it.

So what iPad Pro model do you have?

I have a cellular 256gb one from Verizon that I still have another year to finish paying on every month. That’s why I opted to get it fixed.

That would do it. Leased devices always make me nervous having.

Not leased necessarily but yes there’s a commitment. I parlayed the $200 savings on my Verizon 12.9 inch IPP into AppleCare just to give myself the peace of mind. Paid cash for the device but figured I’d offset the cost of the additional coverage and the accessories a little.

Everyone is different and draws different value from things.

Well that makes sense to get it fixed than. The cellular version costs like $900 plus. Sure verizon gave u $150-200 to be on the 2 year contract.

I have both WiFi iPad and cellular iPad Pro (work) and I obviously value my cellular iPad more due to its flexibility

apple doesn't replace screens. that price is for a full unit replacement.
Yes. I understand. That’s always been the apple policy to replace entire iPad since the first generation iPad. I’ve owned all the iPads every generation basically.

Regardless it’s just a steep price to pay for a replacement. But the OP has cellular iPad. So makes sense to bite the bullet and pay the $450. If it were the base WiFi model i would just tough it out and buy another base WiFi iPad Pro 2018 model when it’s released and on sale again rather than pay the $450 to replace the 2017 iPad Pro model.

Wow, that Anthony13 guy was a total butthead to you. Just ignore tools like that with poor communication skills and glean the helpful nuggets from the others.

Let this be a lesson. Always buy Applecare+. The peace of mind is worth the price.

I dunno. AppleCare isn’t worth it for some products. iPad 5th and 6th gen glass can be easily fixed on Craigslist local shops for around $80 and they are high quality.

iPad Pro screens are harder to fix. So yes. I advise to get AppleCare for the iPad pro

iPhone X yes. Get AppleCare or similar insurance unless u got coverage via credit cards like Barclays uber visa or Wells Fargo credit card phone protection. Cause it’s expensive to fix iPhone X.

Big negative. Third party is capable of doing better jobs than Apple on repairs. Smh
