Sounds oddly specific... I don't use phones so I can't really answer, but my iPads are about the same thickness, and if those slipped in the seat they'd either hit me in the back when I sit down or make a loud enough clang on the floor for me to know they got in there o_o;;

Sure, it’s extremely easy to do in many of the lay flat configurations.

You’re also warned not to do raise your seat, presumably because all the gearing in the seat could potentially crush the device and be a fire hazard.

Digging around in the underbelly of the seat is usually sufficient to find it but it’s a little scary as it feels like you might lose your arm, too.

I've lost mine in my recliner at home, had to turn the whole thing upside down to locate it underneath. I believe there have been news reports of fires caused by phones getting crushed in the seat-tilt mechanism on airplanes?

No, but I lost a phone between console and seat in a car though and it required for the garage to remove the whole assembly to fish it out.

No. But on Southwest I put my iPhone 12 Pro Max in the seatback pocket in front of me. There was a hole in the bottom and my phone fell out and cracked the back glass when it hit the seat anchors on the floor.

No, but it must have happened enough that during my last flight the flight attendants mentioned in the safety announcements to let them know when that happens.
British Airways?

I was flying BA a few months back (overnight) and they kept stressing NOT to move the seat if it happened - but to let them know.

I imagined seat mechanisms must’ve crunched a few phones, or something like that?

I was on a 9hr overnight flight when I was sleeping, and I had a dream: imagine losing your 1100$ phone in a airplane seat! so i made this thread. (People who have an android phone can reply and vote, too) :)
If it makes your day any better, my iPhone 13 Pro was violently stolen in metro. On the way to airport. So unknowingly losing your phone while already seated in plane sounds like a dream to me.

I flew trans-Pacific last time so not BA.

I have to imagine it's because there's lots of hooks and crannies in the seats that they don't want passengers breaking the seat to get their phones, especially as you move up the cabin class.

I loathe flying 121

I ether put my stuff in my jacket or the pocket infront of me if I’m forced to rid on the metro bus of the sky

no, but if you ever do, listen to the instructions and call a flight attendant to recover it. Moving the seat can rupture the battery...not a good day.

Never lost my phone but I did drop one of my Beats Fit Pro EarPods on a flight as I was trying to get them back in the case. Thankfully the person in the row behind me was able to find it.

Now I'm very careful about putting those slippery things back in their case.
