Has Anyone Put iOS 5 on a 3GS?

Finished mine up yesterday, and spent 3 hours plating with it last night!....Love it!....The only 'problem' so far is icall won't load. Tomorrow I'll hand the 3gs off to wife and fire up my 4S!....:D
 
The reminders cant be set location based on the 3Gs, theyre just timebased.
 
Put it on the 3GS last night (without any of the problems that others have been having).

I fiound it has made the phone faster. It is the wife phone so will not get abused as much my iP 4.

Thanks guys - I was wondering whether to encourage my flatmate to update, but was worried it might slow it down like 4 did on the 3G.
 
since the iphone 3GS is going to be sold for at least the next 9-12 months it's a certainty that no update will slow it down significantly in that time, the 3G was only slowed down after the it had stopped being sold.
 
Had loads of problems getting it to work on my phone, most of the problems being with Itunes

Now sorted but it wont stop doing something to the artworks which takes ages

Also its changed loads of the Artists which wont change bvack to what they should be - very annoying

if your contacts dissapear its because you need to import them from the SIM
 
update or not?

I have got a 3GS and am going to buy a 4S. Do you think I should update to ios5 before backing up and moving to the 4S?

I then want to give my 3gs to my wife...so if I 'erase all contents and settings', will that change the ios?

there is no harm in updating, when you give your phone to your wife nothing will change she can update it, but personally I wouldn't use the 'erase all contents and settings' I would just connect it to her itunes and select the 'restore' option that will erase all your stuff and reload the latest OS and set it up as a brand new phone for her. that will save time too.

Thanks for your help androiphone. My wife isn't an iphone user yet though so she doesn't have itunes. Does that change what you suggest? If she puts a new SIM card into the old phone and connects it to itunes, will she be given the option of setting it up as a new iphone (and will that erase all my old stuff)?

I agree!

Personally I wouldnt want to update my 3GS again with iOs5 unless clearing the lot
 
I am glad apple made the 3gs usable with IOS5 unlike the 3g which sucked on ios4. But then again apple still sells the 3gs

nope doesn't chane anything, so (if she has her own computer) she would get the 3GS put her sim card in, install itunes then connect the phone to iTunes, a message will pop up about the phone being synced with another library, hit cancel to get rid of the message, then on the left hand side click the iphones name, then on the main screen hit 'restore', that clean installs the OS, from there on just set it up like it was a new phone you had just bought.

And what if she doesn't have her own computer...?!
 
I did a back to new phone install and all went well. I am changing to a 4s in the next day so did not mind doing a full reset, i will do it again before I pass it over to a friend. I have noticed its a bit faster is some places and not in others but OS5 is a great improvment over what it had, but could still be improved in places..
