Has anyone removed the glass plate?

Amidst all of the controversy regarding the new display, I was wondering if anyone has removed the glass plate (I know it takes some guts. That's why I want you to do it before I do). If you have, did you find it to be an improvement? My 2.8Ghz iMac has yet to arrive, but I have basically decided that I would force myself to get used to it. Nonetheless I am curious to know if this is a viable option. If I keep the glass safe it shouldn't void the warranty, but the folks at the Apple store might wonder how all that dust got in there...

don't you remember that all computer displays were glossy up until very recently (with the invention of LCDs)? I am still getting used to matte lcds.

Hummm, your experience doesn't quite jive with mine.

None of my CRT monitors at home or work have been glossy. All have had some level of anti-reflection coating. At work, I would not accept a glossy screen in my office (most coworkers felt the same) . At home, they've all been Trinitron - all non-glare. Having used these CRTs for more years than I'd like to admit, only recently have they been replaced with LCDs. They are not glossy, either.

The new iMac's screen probably looks great to the average consumer, and it probably helps sell the overall design. But, it's still not going to be for everyone - especially in many pro environments.

Maybe I should have worded the question differently. I know the glossy/matte discussion has just about run its course in some past threads. I basically wanted to know if anyone on this forum had opened their iMac (24" preferably), and if so, what is the screen like under there? Is it truly a matte display just cover with glass?

If that is the case, do LCDs sans glass have any protective covering? Hmm...questions to ponder.
