The new camera connection is coming to the iPad soon and I'd like to use it to back up pictures. My camera is CF only. There is the USB option but I've tried this before and the process is slow and painful (even hooking the camera to my MBP via USB takes a long time). I've seen CF to SD converters but I've never seen a SD to CF. I've googled it... no dice. That started me thinking. I wonder if you can connect a standard all in one card reader via USB to the camera connection kit. While it may not speed it up, at least it won't kill the battery on my camera.

Has anyone seen a CF to SD reader?

Could you run a SD to CF converter in your camera? I've seem them for other formats where the smaller card fits inside a carrier that converts it to the larger size.

But anyway, I haven't heard of one either.
What I don't get is that you don't want the USB option, yet at the end you asked about USB connected to the camera connection kit?
If all you're concerned with is battery, then there are CF USB adapters. There are even CF firewire readers.
Whether you can hook up the USB directly to the connection kit and have it work...you'll have to wait until it comes out.
But anyway, I haven't heard of one either.

I have a firewire reader for my MBP, and a USB reader at home. For some reason, the Camera takes longer than the USB reader. In theory, it should be the same speed, but it's not. It's much faster than connecting my camera's USB. Go figure.... I am not concerned so much about the battery life of the iPad, I am more conerned with the battery life of my camera. Also, I can transfer pictures and still keep taking pictures while transfering. I guess we'll have to wait for it to come out and play with it. Thanks for the feedback...

The Camera Connection Kit also comes with a USB adapter (dock connector to USB). It am betting that we will be able to connect a USB CF card reader to the USB adapter and import directly off of a CF card instead of using the camera. Time will tell.

That's what I'm thinking too. I have the old Camera Connection Kit that worked with the first iPod video. It looks the same but I can not find it. I'd love to try it on the iPod but for the life of me, it's nowhere to be found.

Don't know it the iPad will or not but you Mac can tell the difference 100% and if your camera isn't supported by Mac no connection.
