Hello all,

I have a 2010 27" iMac that comes with a 1Tb Samsung F3 HD103SJ HDD.

I would like to add a SSD and at the same time upgrade my Samsung to a 2Tb WD Caviar Black (and keep the Samsung as an external backup drive).

The posts I've read in this forum mostly involve swapping the conventional HDD with a SSD, or adding a SSD while leaving the conventional HDD intact.

I've read about the potential issue with the temperature sensor cable and also saw in applecomponents.com that different cables are used for WD, Hitachi and Seagate HDDs (but curiously I don't see a cable for Samsung drives though).

I'm wondering if anyone has successfully changed/upgraded your HDD to a different model in your iMac? Or is this simply a no-go?

Yeah there's multiple threads on it in this very subforum.

If this is the case, could you please direct me to the relevant threads if this has been discussed before?

Just to be sure that I'm not starting a thread on a topic that has been discussed before, I'm referring to the upgrade of the conventional drive not the SSD (which I've already read through the many helpful threads in this subforum).
