Has anyone tried Sony Vaio TX series?

I was browsing Sony Style web site this morning and I saw this nicely packaged new TX series. It's as expensive (priced at about $2300) as 15" PB if you equip it with DL DVD + RW. But, it comes with Cingular Edge wireless card installed internally.

The donwside is it comes with Windows XP. But, other than that, this notebook looks very good and I want to hear from the forum members who used or owns this new notebook.

I played around with a VAIO TX last week. Some impressions:

1. The lid is surprisingly thin yet sturdy (in true Apple fashion). It's really thin.

2. The open/close movement of the lid has a very nice fluid feel to it.

3. The square keys are small and more densely packed so I did some touch typing for about 10 minutes to try to get accustomed to the spacing. I made some mistakes (repeatedly), but I believe I can comfortably retrain my fingers. Hence not an issue.

4. The screen itself is bright, clear, and has a fine dot pitch that creates a solid image with hardly any noticeable pixelation or screendoor effect.

5. Performance from the Intel Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) Pentium M is actually quite good. Running just over 1 GHz, it's still plenty fast. My 2GHz Dothan (2nd generation Pentium M) with SpeedStep routinely scales back to 318MHz or 768MHz and performance with Office Apps is still very good. Hence, a Pentium ULV at just over 1 GHz would be plenty fast for the types of applications you would run on an ultraportable.

I was impressed by the TX's design, light weight, strong materials, battery life, screen quality, performance, and build quality. However, the price is high.

I had two Sony Vaios and a Sony Desktop for PC needs and found them all to be excelelnt machines. If I had to go back again, it would definitely ba a Sony.

are you looking at the tx series just for the EDGE card? if so you might want to reconsider. iirc cingular is introducing a new network next year that's faster than edge. if you need WAN you could just get a 15" pb with a sony ericsson EDGE card and upgrade the card when the next thing comes out.

I did not know they make WAN card for Mac as well. I thought those cards are only available for M$ Windose. If I can use those WAN card in PC card slot in PBs, then, I think I would rather stick with Apple.
