Has anyone tried to upgrade iPhone to v2.1 without inserting any simcard??

If I need to upgrade my iPhone 3G overseas, will I still be able to upgrade the firmware through iTune without any simcard?? Has someone tried it before??

It will work fine. Software activation is a one time process until you restore. As long as you're running 2.0, 2.0.1, or 2.0.2, you'll be fine doing the upgrade.
