Has anyone tried using these to pass audio?

The Altona says it will pass audio over mini DP but I don't think it works on the macs anyway right?

I bought a similar connector for my mac mini to my tv. The audio doesnt pass through the mini dvi so it doesnt connect the sound. And it notes this on the link:
Note2: Audio will only work if Mini-DisplayPort source is capable of outputting audio though Mini-Display Port connector. Please check in your users manual for the Apple laptop you have.Application:

I have to connect the sound through the phone jack to a separate sound system or through t toslink cable.

I have seen other cables that will include a connection for the phone jack and the pass it through the HDMI cable. If i knew this before purchasing the cable i have I would have got it.

I don't think they do even if the cable supports it.
