I was just wondering if anyone has slipped another accounts 2G Iphone Sim card in a 3G iphone and what were the results?

I would really like a new IPhone. But since I don't have 3G in my area I see no reason to upgrade my service as of yet. Just curious if the old service will work on the new phone.

Thanks,
Carbon

Same situtation, additional problem encountered

:( I purchased and activated 3G on ebay and received it without a sim as expected. I put my 2G sim in it and everything seems to work fine EXCEPT i can't get 3G connectivity, I am still on the EDGE network for internet.
What can I do, if anything to correct this.

The purpose of buying the new activated phone was to avoid the 2yr. contract.

The 3G is not unlocked or jailbroken, just activated, with the original sim which was removed by the seller.

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY, GREATLY , APPRECIATED. THANKS

Because the account from your original iPhone doesn't have a 3G subscription. You might be able to call AT&T and have them add the 3G data plan.

That is wrong. I can use my GoPhones sim in my 3G iPhone and still get 3G service. It works perfectly with just it's basic data plan and $29 minute plan. Maybe this person simply doesn't live in a 3G area.

FOLLOW UP TO REPLY, Thanks, I do live in a 3G AT&T area (near Disneyland), so there must be another problem? Thanks again

iPhone 3g with old 2G SIM

:)The old SIM from the 2G does work ok in the new 3G and everything works fine including the 3G network internet.

The problem was with me ... there is an option under "Settings/General/Network" to turn 3G ON/OFF. I didn't even know that option existed because the 2G iPhone does not have it.

Once the 3G is turned to "ON" the phone connects to the 3G network and the word "3G" appears in the front screen next to the AT&T bars.

Thanks to all for your help in pointing me in the right direction.

Glad you got it working. It took me awhile to notice the 3G on/off setting as well on day one.

2g sim card in a 3gs iphone

Heres a question...

I have an iphone 2g, and am interested in the iphone 3gs; however, I do not have any 3g network where I live. Is it possible to put a 2g sim in the iphone 3gs, and continue to still pay the $20 month fee?

... I mean since I dont get 3g coverage, why pay for it?

Yes. My 3GS iPhone was originally activated at the Apple store on June 19. I came home, and took the phone number that my 3GS was just activated on and activated my 2G with that same number. I chose the 450 minutes + 200 SMS included plan with $20 data plan. 2G iPhone activated and then I put that sim in my 3GS. I've been using the 3GS with that sim since June 19 and it works perfectly. My last bill was $66. 3G works of course because it comes with the phone and not the service plan you pay for but that won't concern you.
