Has anyone used the Sony a5000?

I've been camera shopping lately, and I've come across the Sony a5000, which seems like a bargain compared to the newer offerings from Sony (a6000). I was wondering if anyone of you actually have used the camera and what are your honest thoughts on it; In addtion, I was thinking about purchasing a Canon FD 1.8 lens and and an adapter for shallow depth of field shots if I were to purchase an a5000.

Does it have a viewfinder?

That's the big advantage of the a6000.

BTW, I saw a good deal on the a6000 over at dealmac.com today -- might be worth checking out.

I haven't used the a5000, but I do own the a6000 - first camera aside from an iPhone for me. I got mine from Best Buy, they had a deal for $699 that came with a case, 55-210mm lens and the 50mm lens.

I have the NEX 5T which is the predecessor to that camera and love it. Makes lazy photographers like me look like a genius. Really easy to use, lots of manual functions, lightweight compared to the DSLR and takes photos that can stack up up to them. The Best Buy deal described above sounds great and getting a 55-210 and 50mm lens would be the first lens I would get anyway! And somewhere a 35mm prime of course

Was looking into getting the a5000 but went with the Canon SL1 instead. Nothing wrong with the a5000 but a few cons is I didn't like how it didn't have a view finder as the LCD won't be the best on sunny days and no touch screen.

Not a bad camera as for the price it's good but are you willing not to have a viewfinder? no touch screen compared to other models? Also remember a lot of the camera "apps" are extra money in the store.

A good camera if you are looking at cost and do not have "must have" feature list for a camera. Personally I would get the a6000 because I shoot wildlife and need the higher frame rates it can do.

I use the Sony a6000 for filming green screen shots in our studio and on the go. I take photos with it, but my iPhone 6+ is still my goto since it lives in my pocket.
