Hi, I bought my 17" MBP C2D last week and I am being prompted to download some new updates, but I've heard some horror stories of people who downloaded the updates. I was wondering if anyone with a MBP C2D downloaded these updates with no problems?

i've only had one problem, it was with a grayish screen that drops down and gives you a message in 5 different languages stating that you need to shut down your computer. I dont think it was because of the updates. You should be fine.

I have had no problems. There aren't that many updates to begin with..

Dude, while it is always good to be careful... you've GOT to take what people post on these forums with a large grain of salt. If things were truly as they sometimes appear to be here - hospital emergency rooms around the world would be overflowing with Mac owners suffering 3rd degree leg burns and permanent hearing loss from their exceedingly hot, exceedingly loud Macbook Pros.

Oh, and likely they'd all have to have their hands stitched after putting their fists through the horribly grainy glossy screens - or was it the matte ones? :D

Security Update 2006-007

The latest security update "broke" several apps on my month-old MBP: MS Word, MS Entourage, Now Up-To-Date, Snapz Pro and Tex-Edit Plus all refused to open after the update (and I repaired permissions before and after, disconnected all peripherals, etc.). Nothing would allow them to work: repair permissions, fsck -y, disk utility on install disc, nothing. I finally had to "Archive and Install" using the install disc, and all is well.

I've been reluctant to try another install of 2006-007, since I don't have another free day for awhile to "fix" it again, if this recurs, since I need most of these apps daily. (Other than these individual apps, everything else worked fine, tho.)

Anyone else have this happen? Several threads over on the Apple forums, but user experience is variable, and I haven't seen anything as to whether this is an Intel-only problem, or not.

Only one of those apps I use regularly is Word, and it has been fine since the update. I've got more or less the same laptop as you.

(Note that I'm not doubting your problems; I'm just reporting that I haven't seen the same issues).
