The other day I finally got around to sending my MBP in to Applecare. Symptoms were:

Whine
Excessive heat
Warped Case
left side fan noise
two hardware test error codes.

It arrived at apple *today*

The status already shows repair completed. Return shipment pending.

My question is this:

Is AppleCare

a) replacing my computer outright

b) the most efficient operation on the planet

c) tripping on acid

d) experiencing a minor error in inputting my info

I suppose we'll know soon enough, it just seemed kinda strange. They said about a week round trip, but seeing as this is only the first business day....

I've gotten stuff back before I thought possible. They repair very very quickly. It doesn't take them long to pop in a new logic board (or whatever is wrong). If there's one thing about Apple, it's that they are FAST.

Apple is really fast about repairs. My computer had the whine, sleep problems, video card problems, and a warped lid, and they fixed it once they got it. It was very fast service. I was without my computer for two days! :D I checked, it wasn't a referbed computer either. It was the same one.

My friend had a macbook with similar problems. After sending it out; 1 week turnaround time. Back in his posession. Unreal!

They apparently replaced the logic board in my Powerbook on the same day they got it at the repair center too. They work fast, I guess!

The one month + return time, of course, is a different matter...

I just hope they noted the warped bottom of the case when I called in. I'd hate to get it back and still have a warped computer. I'm not on Star Trek (yet ;) )

Lol, fast...? I am glad to hear that some of your repairs took only a week or so, but in the other end of the spectrum they are equally slow. My iBook was in for 43 days, uhm...

It's not done. I had that happen on my repair recently (Said repair completed), yet still no word of it being shipped back. 5 Days later, they state repair has been completed (again.. wtf? How many repairs did you do) and it finally shipped back. It came back worse but that's a whole other story.

Sorry to bump-in...

Anyone here knows how to contact Apple Support via email - why? I am in Africa working, got my MBP last when in the US. I got lots of issues (heat, noise, bend casing, etc.) I tried to call Apple support 1st US then UK, but after hour or so on hold I gave up due to the cost! I want to notify about my problems and when I get back to US for Christmas (four or max five days) I need the MBP repaired or exchanged...

It is most certainly either a, b, c, or d. :p

Seriously, though, AppleCare is reallllly fast. Getting it back fixed is another issue

You were hoping that since it said "repair completed" on the same day they received it, that they would just send you a NEW MACBOOK. :D

Not going to happen. Why? Because that would make too much sense.

I'll share my experience.

Is AppleCare fast? Yes

Is it too fast? Yes

Why is it too fast? Because they won't fix everything you ask

How do I know? Because it happened to mine.

Mine had a) whine b) excessive heat c) very weak latch release d) noisy right fan when in 3D.

And guess what, they technically only fixed (a) by replacing the mobo and inverter which resulted in fixing (b) as well. As for (c) & (d), it was not fixed. My guess is, unless your problem is extremely obvious like the whine, it will possibly get ignored. Hope all ur issues get solved, gl.

You said it right there man. The defects have to jump out and slap the technician in the face to get noticed.

Well, 24 hours after they received the computer for repair....

I received my MBP!

What was taken care of: both fans replaced!

Whine is not as loud as before (and seemed to have disappeared altogether for a time, but then came back?)

what was not taken care of: logic board not replaced

Probable thermal paste issues

case bulge

so it's running warm, still (idle at 66Cish) but thankfully it doesn't get overly hot when maxed out now that the fans work properly.

will i send it in again? maybe down the line, but probably not for a while...i'll wait for a lull in school and send it in.

still, the biggest and most serious complaint was taken care of! and it is the main one that I hit upon. No surprise that they focused on it.

Apple doesn't repair anything. Repairs are outsourced to a 3rd party.

but do they tell the 3rd party to put the pro lines through faster?

My first repair(just a regular macbook not pro) was done just like that I mailed it in tuesday morning, they recieved it wednesday morning, fixed it wednesday morning, and then mailed it back and had it to me by thursday morning. Too bad it wasn't fixed properly and they scratched it up. But thats a whole nother thread.
