I'm currently on Big Sur and find myself regularly fighting with the way iCloud Drive syncs its contents:

If I add a big file on a different Mac, it gets downloaded everywhere automatically (which is intended), but during this process, it's impossible to tell Finder to stop downloading the file or just not download it at all and keep it in the cloud only.

I first have to let the big file download completely (even if I'm using tethering over a expensive mobile connection) and then I can tell Finder to not store it locally, so it gets deleted and stays in the cloud only ?

Has this changed on Monterey?
