Running various iOS 13 iterations over the past 10 days or so and it has ruined the experience of my xr. On 13.1.3 and apps constantly crash, everything is glitchy and multitasking is impossible as if I switch from one app to another and back they all restart rather than picking up where I left off. Background app refresh is on, as was before. Been to Apple store and they blamed it on the iOS. At a loss as to what to do, has anyone experienced similar?

Have you tried reinstalling, perhaps even as new?

I was going to mention coming across a similar thread or two, but looking at those, like the one at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apps-crashing-restarting-for-no-reason.2205878/, it seems like they are ones that you posted. Seems like similar advice was provided in one of them.

I have but am not willing to as that would result in an awful lot of data loss, an awful lot. Don’t see why I should need to do that; if it is a software issue surely Apple have to sort it, if it is a hardware issue they need to replace or repair it. It’s times like this when Apple need to step up and justify their eye watering prices; less than a year and a £799 phone essentially malfunctioning is not on.

Considering that it doesn’t seem that many people are experiencing what you are describing it seems like it can very well be something related to your particular install/device. Things of this nature happen to much more expensive computers as well, for example. Unfortunately while it’s not necessarily something common, it’s not completely unusual or unheard of either in the world of computing and technology overall.

No issues with mine, though battery life seems a little shorter. Incidentally, I ended up restoring my phone due to being locked out, and everything's faster and smoother than iOS 12, dare I say?

Nothing else worked so I bit the bullet and reset my phone to factory settings and restored by iTunes. Very much doubt it will work as I’m convinced the bug will be carried forward with the restore but didn’t have any other options. Restore took 3 hours which was highly annoying as well. Fairly peeved with Apple atm.

Will update you in a day or so.

What hasn't?
iOS 13 has not ruined my phone - an iPhone 7 plus. My boss has an SE and it is running well on it (though it apparently needs a new battery). I never have had background app refresh though I doubt it is the source of your problems.

I also think iOS has features and code that are to a certain extent model specific.

I had no problems with the original release of iOS 13. In fact, the original release (in my experience) seemed to be an improvement over 12.x for that week or so i had it.

The past couple of updates though - oh my, what a disaster.

Main issue(s) are with Carplay in particular. Waze (and/or maps - i think anything using the GPS) will just.... stop working. Phone will get super hot, freeze and literally 5-10 minutes later either crash/reboot - or suddenly recover and carry on. And you won't notice unless you happen to see the map isn't updating. Which makes relying on navigation instructions, traffic/accident/camera alerts, etc. - totally useless.

Which is.... annoying.

edit:
actually, last weekend, the phone drained battery super fast while i left it somewhere else in the house. it died. i'm guessing maybe something else on it went AWOL and froze/chewed hell out of the battery until it went flat, whilst unattended. It would have chewed 50% plus whilst unattended in say 3-4 hours. I only found out because my GF was knocking on the front door to be let into the house (she went for a run without house keys) after trying to call me and not getting a response.

Battery is "normal" condition... iphone 7...

Had issues with maps on CarPlay on one of the beta versions of iOS13 but since that was sorted i've had nothing major at all on my 6S device. Mail has a few moments but in the main iOS13 has been fine for me on what is the oldest of the supported devices.

I read a lot of reviews that after updating to iOS13 a lot of people experienced glitches and other discrepancies, but thankfully, it didn't happen to me. Maybe you could write to their support or try to re-install it if that's possible?

I've had some refreshes when multitasking where I wouldn't normally experience them, like going between Messages and iBooks but I trust this'll be ironed out with updates. It's annoying, but not sell-my-phone-hate-Apple annoying

You've been reporting issues about your iPhone XR since you got it (from your post history). Sounds like you got a dud that should have been replaced a while back.

Not according to Apple. Still have 19 days on the warranty so will assess it over the next few days and go back to them if needs be.

Have written to their support and they reel off the same advice:
- hard restart the phone
- reinstall impacted apps
- reset settings
- factory reset phone and restore from backup

I'm on the 4th step so fingers crossed it works.

No, haven't experienced what you describe at all. You didn't mention which apps you're having trouble with. Have they been updated with iOS 13 support?

I wouldn't say it's ruined it, but after upgrading my wife's 8 to 13.1.3 she sent me these screen shots with a big "WTF"... I feel bad because she never had a complaint on iOS 12.

I own two iPhone XR’s, an iPad Air 3 and an Apple Watch series 4. iOS and iPadOS have not ruined anything here. I do still see two bugs:

* Reminders are not syncing between devices
* Receiving notifications of new email but no new email appears in the Mail app

Both bugs can easily be mitigated by refreshing the relevant apps. I would not call that “ruining” anything, just a step or two and I’m back in business.
