In previous releases I could enable the simple finder with:

defaults write com.apple.finder InterfaceLevel simple ; killall Finder

In Big Sur that no longer seems to work. Does anyone know if it can be done anymore?

Thanks, regards, Rob.

It appears to be gone since Catalina, when Apple replaced parental controls (where the feature originated) with Screen Time. The toggle for this is not present in the latter.

A quick web search indicates that there is no solution. I have tried to replicate it with a managed profile to rule out that a user default may not work, but I was not successful.

Wow, I just learned that this was apparently removed in Crapalina.

I'm trying to run a single app on a Mac at a show/event. Unfortunately, the Mac has to run 11.0 or newer.

Screen Time sucks and still lets them screw around in the Finder and such, although I was able to make it so that they could not launch any other apps, and Safari can launch but they can't actually load any site. I also emptied the Dock of all but the Finder, Trash, and desired app.

We are actually also running a different app on an old iMac 27" 2009 model and are able to lock it down a lot more.

Does Apple just not give a sh** anymore?
