I plan on getting one mainly for watching youtube, plex, movies, and hopefully be able to stream games from my PC to play on it and am curious to know if this has replaced their TV and local cinema for them? I was going to shell out some money to buy a LG OLED gaming TV, but if the AVP can do it and do it much better. I rather save and get me an AVP instead if the overall experience is that much better.

Not to be a jerk but unless you’re single and will be for a long time it’s a very isolated and uncomfortable experience. Nothing cemented on your face will ever replace a proper viewing/audio experience and this is one of the many reasons AVP is arguably a failure and why most VR systems are niche.

Try it out, first. I had the AVP for 2 weeks when it first came out but got cold feet and returned it because of a couple of factors when it comes to watching movies/etc on it.

I had never used a real VR headset before and I had no idea how limited the peripheral vision is on it. Yes, you get used to it, but it made me a little sad when I first put it on how much it felt like looking through binoculars. If you want to watch a movie on a BIG screen in there, you might not be able to see the whole screen in your field of vision. I found myself panning left to right to catch all the action when watching movies in there. Yes, you can adjust the screen size so it does fit, but then it's not that giant IMAX style experience anymore. It takes getting used to.

The other thing for me that was irksome was if I watched media in a dark virtual environment, I got all kinds of haloing and glare around the edges of the lenses. I went to the Apple Store and the guy who helped me seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. I described it as best I could. He had me try on other fits for the bands, etc, and the result was the same. Others here have said they never see that, but plenty do. It's basically like watching a movie with thick glasses on. The glare is unavoidable.

All that said, it really is an astonishing piece of tech and what it does well is so impressive that I was a little sad to let it go and have been finding myself wanting to buy it again, and I might someday. Though at this point I'm waiting for a chip upgrade bump or a new model first, as this one is now almost 1.5 years old.

As far as replacing the home theater or cinema. No, as others have said, not unless you're committed to watching everything alone. And even so, if you like sipping a cocktail or tea, or eating, while watching... it's a bit challenging with the headset on. I live alone, but one of my favorite things to do is have friends over for movie nights and I love my big TV and audio setup for that. I also am a cinephile and go to the movies a lot. So yeah.

I also wonder if there isn't a detriment for using a light source that close to your eyes for a really extended period of time. I love the thing, but I'd be nervous about using it for hours on end.

But if money isn't an issue, it is a really impressive and fun gadget to mess around with.

Hey for me yeah it has! I only go to the theaters now for launch movies that I really want to see and don't want to wait.

When I go to the theaters now I am also disappointed by the size of the screen lol!

I might be one of the few but the feeling of wearing the Vision Pro doesn't bother me that much.
Yeah it would be nice if it was a little lighter but it's at that point where I am fine with it on.

Movies look great and 3D movies have become my preferred way to watch.
Also 16K content looks so real, I'm looking forward to more 16K content.

16k content? where do you get that? Do you stream it from the cloud to your AVP? or do you upload it directly to the headset? I have plex, so I hope I will be able to stream my videos from plex directly to the headset.

There are multiple apps that can stream from a Plex server. 16K content is rare but try the Prima app. You can also AirDrop files to the AVP to watch.

Everybody is different. Some people here got a Vision Pro and can only wear theirs for 10 minutes before complaining about their weak little neck hurting. Some people say a theater is better and the experience can’t be replicated in avp.

I’m not those people. I can wear mine for 5+ hours and not even want to take it off. I remember when i went to the theater at some point after i got mine and me and my wife saw nosfaratu. I remember thinking in the movie theater “am i crazy or do movies look BETTER at home on my Vision Pro”? The picture quality at the theater didn’t look that great, the screen actually seemed smaller than watching things on my vision. I felt more immersed watching things at home on my couch. Now if that type of experience isn’t worth $3500 to other movie goers, I don’t know what is.

When this technology gets cheaper and half the weight and it finally goes mainstream, I wouldn’t be surprised if people end up preferring this movie experience to a theater. The last few times i went to the movies i spent like $50 on concessions that i could’ve made better at home, i had to deal with traffic getting to and from the theater, annoying people IN the theater talking or even better, someone coming up and telling me I’m in the wrong seat because they can’t read their own ticket number. I got a hot dog steamer, popcorn popper, grill, nugget ice. Movie nights at home are awesome

Hey I am 100% with you lol. I just went to see 28 Years Later and of course people kept talking nearby. Their $10 popcorn sucks as well I rather buy a bag of Lesser Evil for $5 and sneak it in. I also saw Nosfaratu and was disappointed with the screen size.. I usually try to go to IMAX showings now if I can. The colors on the screens of the AVP are amazing.

I wouldn’t say it has replaced, not sure VR will anytime soon.

This isn’t because of the quality. The movie experience in AVP is unbeatable. The screen size, quality, immersion… you simply cannot get that in any normal home environment with a TV. It is the best way to watch a movie, or even sports which I use it for F1.

The issue is the isolation, you cannot enjoy the experience easily with others. So it has it place today, but not a replacement.

Quick recommendation my guy. Tried this recently and i can’t stop buying it! I usually don’t like microwave popcorn but damn. They include little liquid butter packets you can pour on your popcorn after it’s popped. It’s so good. Give it a try

AMC Theatres Microwave Popcorn 6ct, Extra Butter

I completely agree with you. Whenever my wife wants time together, i have to put my AVP aside (sad lol) i know there’s gonna be new shared spatial features in vision os 26 so we’ll see if that ends up changing anything. Supposedly you can see the same objects OR a giant movie screen with people in the same room. If my woman can get into AVP maybe I’ll let her have mine when i upgrade and we can watch movies together after the new update.
