My Note 5 hasn’t received the security update for this month, being as it’s now two years since its launch does anyone know if Samsung have discontinued support for this handset?

Except I am in the UK not the US so I am operating it in a country it was never officially released in.
my Note 8 still has the August security update. So I think they are behind for all phones, at least it seems that way. I read somewhere they purposefully skipped the September update (not sure why) but I haven't received October yet either.

That’s really useful. Will need to bookmark that link. Wonder how much longer the Note 5 will be supported.
Maybe it is something to do with that issue with WPA2, doesn’t that particular impact Android devices.

That’s good news as I have decided to stick with my Note 5 a while longer. TBH it’s partly a financial decision.
You should be fine. The Note5 if I remember correctly ran on the Exynos7420 globally, that's a 14nm chip, and 4GB RAM. That should mean the Note5 technically should be more similar to the S7 series in updates as the Hardware isn't greatly different. If I'm not mistaken Note5 should get Oreo, I could be wrong though on that last point, but thanks to the Note7 debacle, the Note5 is technically the last Note before Note8, and so should be updated along with the S7 Range which are getting Oreo.

I’ve always thought Samsung should make a lot less devices and the ones it has support them longer. That’s why my next Android device will likely be a Pixel.
No, "that issue with WPA2" (Krack) affects ALL devices that have Wifi... as in ALL... as in anything that uses Wifi... as in your smart refrigerator, webcam, my pool cleaner.. ALL. How did you interpret that it was more an Android issue?
That article I read about it specifically mentioned Android devices being at risk.
Is there likely to be a fix for WPA2 or is that it for as a encryption standard?
Apple and Microsoft have have offered software updates to fix the issue.
