Has the graininess of MBP screen been fixed?

Same here, both mine and my girlfriends look perfect (to me at least). I think the majority of screens are fine.
I think the vast majority of screens are grainy. I've looked at all the screens at the Soho and 5th Avenue stores and owned three myself and they are all grainy beyon anything I've seen in other notebooks, including apple's powerbooks. However, it IS of course subjective in that many people don't care or don't see it. I think you have to be used to something else to see it - I'm used to Apple powerbooks and the macbook and, compared to these, the MBP is grainy. You should try to check it out for yourself first to see if it's ok for your needs.
This Powerbook G3 I have has dead pixels and crap. I went and looked at the MBPs and just stood in awe of the amazing picture quality. I don't know where this grainy observation comes from. 
Pheww.. I'm so relieved to hear this thing... I plan to buy MBP for myself next January... But scrolling through this forum, I found so many post regarding to this particular issue which makes me worry...

If you're working with any kind of solid color (white, gray etc), the anti-reflective surface acts almost like filter and creates the appearances of a grainy texture. To see this, open a safari window and go to a site with lots of white, then drag it around and see how the graininess doesn't move since it's part of the display itself. If you do this on a regular matte screen, the whites will be completely smooth and you won't see anything at all, except the solid white. Just compare to a macbook OR macbook pro 17" and you'll see quite a difference.
the new displays impress in terms of brightness, but everything else is really not very impressive (illumination evenness, vertical adn horizontal viewing angles and the grainy textured look).
Well my MBP has crystal clear display. Nothing wrong with it at all. And if there was any issues with the display i would prob notice it in some games that i play.
I think that I see the graininess that everyone talks about on my MBP but I never even noticed it until I started reading posts about. It doesn't really bother me to be honest. Never even think about it. Perhaps if it got in the way of the work that I need to get done it would bother me.
I would say this again here: My MBP has the best display I ever seen, even better than my former Vaio and PB G3, but I can agree that can be a subjective issue
Well to answer that question... no. The screens are exactly the same. Apple won't *fix* what it, and a huge majority of users, don't consider a problem.
You have to keep in mind that the number of people posting about problems on the forum usually represent a fraction of the people that actually own the products and are quite pleased.
If you run a poll that says "are you satisfied with your MB scree" - I'm sure it will be overwhelmingly positive.
I can't ever seem to stress this enough.
MOST macbook pros have the grainy 'texture' of the anti-reflection. If you don't see it, great for you, but it's still there. If you compare the display with the 17" MBP or the macbook it becomes completely obvious. I'm sure most people don't mind the display, but for those who have had previous powerbooks or the 17mbp/macbook the display is just not as nice.
Speaking as someone who owned a Al G4 Powerbook - my C2D Macbook Pro matte display is beautiful, and noticably nicer than my Powerbook's display (which I thought was pretty nice in and of itself).
Gotta love those sweeping generalizations though - keep up the good work!
Well, I've looked at both the SOHO and 5th Ave stores and I've owned several MBPs myself and my opinion is still that most professionals who need to work on their computer with graphics or photo will find the grain to be annoying. The brightness is wonderful, but Apple sacrificed other things to get that. I simply think the anti-reflective coating is too thick - as I mentioned, it's very easy to see the difference if you check out a 17" MBP and place them side by side.Even if you can't see it, it's still there and a lot of people are seeing it.
Anyway, I'm generalising based on all the MBPs at the two New york stores , as well as three MBPs I owned recently and three I had in spring. I'm glad that there are people that enjoy the display, but I still prefer a dimmer display with good viewing angles, smooth solid colors to this.
Hmm, OK, the screen is the same, but how about the revision number? How come people able to track this down last time, you know during the notorious mooing and other stuffs
I personally think the whole "grainy screen issue" has been blown way out of proportion by one or two hypochondriac buyers. Even in the original thread I couldn't see much of a difference between the supposed "grainy" mbp screen and the "perfect" powerbook screen.
If my screen is grainy (which I don't think it is) then it certainly isn't grainy enough to warrant the cry babies posting here about it.
