I'm still on iOS 16 because I find the request to re-input my Face ID Passcode, somewhat annoying. Has that been resolved with iOS 17.2?

I don't understand. What don't you like? I am able to shut down my phone without a passcode.

No, no it's the bug software bug where you pickup the iPhone and it ask you to reenter your passcode for Face ID. When you look at the battery history, it shows a gap as if the phone turned itself off.

I have not seen it since 17.1.
Interesting because I viewed the comments in the thread I linked and the last comment a member said that the problem still exists with 17.1 so it appears that some are experiencing this problem and others have not. Strange!

I never noticed it… might have happened and I just took the Face ID request to be one of the normal every-few-days requests.

To use Face ID, you must set up a passcode on your device. You must enter your passcode for additional security validation when:

  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.
  • The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last six and a half days and Face ID hasn't unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.
  • The device has received a remote lock command.
  • After five unsuccessful attempts to match a face.
  • After initiating power off / Emergency SOS by pressing and holding either volume button and the side button simultaneously for 2 seconds

I have seen that issue exactly once and never again since then. Staying on iOS 16 because of that is frankly quite absurd.

It's not because iOS 17 doesn't offer anything of value to me vs iOS 16 and I find that bug rather annoying. When it's confirmed that it's fixed, i'll consider upgrading.
