Major scandals concerning iPhone:

Steve Jobs-Antennagate

Tim Cook- Touch Disease, Error 53, Bendgate, Throttlegate.
Convenient to overlook other things, like for example how iOS 4 crippled some older devices that even got Steve Jobs to come out and make a public apology about it and promise to take care of it. Or yellow screens that people were going on all about, or prior to that some devices developing crack. Not knowing or forgetting or actually just overlooking things only devalues what was said that much more.

The best part, when apple got it wrong , Steve Jobs would be the face of Apple. As all this unfolds , Cook is no where to be seen. Just a pathetic press release and back peddling on the conditions . Jobs also got stuff wrong, at least he lead from the front :)

Even if Tim Cook came out and publicly apologized, you (And others) would still complain his apology wasn't sincere enough or Apple is not offering enough in terms of the battery replacement program. Nothing will ever be good enough because of your own dismay/disapproval for Apple.

So you either move forward with how Apple addressed this or continue to complain endlessly on a tech forum about a press release that was "Pathetic" and your expectation of an apology from Tim Cook.

And now we are off onto yet something else.

Steve Jobs (RIP) led from the front on the phony antenna scandal because it was related to a brand new product and he was addressing his very best customers.

Tim Cook is less visisble on the phony throttle scandal because it is related to old products owned by people who buy from Craigslist, not Apple.

Be grateful you got an apology and a discount. From a business standpoint you shouldn’t even have gotten that.

No one sane thanks a low calibur cheater like Apple. No honor among cheaters.

(On jail breaking) Yep. People who do not have the technical smarts and know hows.

This may be my favorite post in the entire thread.

You accuse Apple of being a “dishonorable cheater” yet you jailbreak your phone, void your warranty, strain the processor beyond its design limits, probably are responsible for 99% of this throttle situation, and yet you take no accountability for it.

I am mad at Tim Cook too. As a good customer who purchases his phones at full price from authorized Apple retailers, I am offended that he is coddling the Craigslist crowd like this. Give me a discount for treating Apple products with respect, for honoring the warranty, and for never jailbreaking. Don’t reward those who don’t buy from Apple, break the rules, act entitled, and then cry for a safe space.

You have an inability to listen to your master Apple, who admitted itself it throttles all iphone models from 6 on, jailbroken or not, with planned ios updates.

Apple's stingy self would have exploited its users with high priced battery but is now forced to replace batteries at a discount, for all phones after iphone 6, on demand, because it knows it cheated and got caught.

No honor among cheaters.

All iphones newer than 6 are subject to throttling through planned ios updates by Apple the cheater.
But jailbroken phones have it much easier because they can be easily reverted back to unaffected ios that are not subject to the clutch of Apple the cheater.

Yeah, after two years of frying your processor and nuking your battery.

You should take your beef to Cydia. Let them buy you a replacement battery. After all, they’re the ones who screwed up your iPhone.

You were warned not to jailbreak. Now you pay the price for your bad decision.

iPhones with no access to Cydia are the most affected because they have no way out of Apple's cheating clutch because Apple's lack of honesty and integrity.

Apple now is forced to give batteries on demand at a lowered price, much to the chagrin of its greedy self because its cheating got caught.

No honor among cheaters.

This is rich. There's no actual proof that jailbraking does permanent damage to an iphone in most applications and cases. As is pointed out, it can actually help to offset malicious programming by apple to slow down or hamper performance.

As a jailbroken phone owner, that poster is responsible for 99% of the throttle situation? Even when apple itself has admitted to throttling all devices in that particular sample set whether jailbroken or not?

Not sure where your talk of entitlement or crying for a safe space come from either. Perhaps you should take a closer look at the way you might be received because if it looks like anyone here is being a petulant crybaby, its you.

Surprised this is still going on. I think anyone can agree that Apple should have been more transparent. They apologized and issued a fix. Not sure what else they can do at this point.

The issue is that many apple customers feel let down. I myself admire apple greatly and am disappointed in their handling of the situation. I do not think that apple's goal was to screw their customers. However, as long as the upgrade dollars came rolling in, apple was content in saying nothing. That is very disappointing. But to your point, what more can be extracted from this discussion? I think its more of people just venting their frustrations. We of course can decide not to participate in any discussion we are tired of.

Well I've never jailbroken my phones and they are all still fine and perfectly useable...Just saying...

Anecdotal evidence my friend. I can just as easily say that my 6s plus or my wife's 6 plus were not ever jailbroken and yet they were creeeeeping along before we upgraded. There are tons of documented cases online plus....oh let's see, actual confession by apple themselves that the phones were throttled.

Some of you really are blinded by your unfaltering allegiance to this brand.

Per Apple:

Unauthorized modification of iOS can cause security vulnerabilities, instability, shortened battery life, and other issues

This article is about adverse issues experienced by customers who have made unauthorized modifications to iOS (this hacking process is often called "jailbreaking").

iOS is designed to be reliable and secure from the moment you turn on your device. Built-in security features protect against malware and viruses and help to secure access to personal information and corporate data. Unauthorized modifications to iOS (also known as "jailbreaking") bypass security features and can cause numerous issues to the hacked iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, including:
  • Security vulnerabilities: Jailbreaking your device eliminates security layers designed to protect your personal information and your iOS device. With this security removed from your iOS device, hackers may steal your personal information, damage your device, attack your network, or introduce malware, spyware, or viruses.
  • Instability: Frequent and unexpected crashes of the device, crashes, and freezes of built-in apps and third-party apps, and loss of data.
  • Shortened battery life: The hacked software has caused an accelerated battery drain that shortens ther operation of an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on a single battery charge.
  • Unreliable voice and data: Dropped calls, slow, or unreliable data connections, and delayed or inaccurate location data.
  • Disruption of services: Services such as iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Apple Pay, Visual Voicemail, Weather, and Stocks, have been disrupted or no longer work on the device. Additionally, third-party apps that use the Apple Push Notification Service have had difficulty receiving notifications or received notifications that were intended for a different hacked device. Other push-based services such as iCloud and Exchange have experienced problems synchronizing data with their respective servers.
  • Inability to apply future software updates: Some unauthorized modifications have caused damage to iOS that is not repairable. This can result in the hacked iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iOS update is installed.
Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of the iOS end-user software license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

Yea I totally get all of your points, but if the issue had affected me - I'd be happy that they at least came forward with a solution. They can't go back and change what happened, so it is what it is. Time to move on.

haha....so apple puts out an article that say jailbreaking CAN cause issues. It's not guaranteed. I said theres no actual proof that jailbreaks do permanent damage and you cut/paste an apple press release saying it might. In the past (when I still thought it was worth it) I jailbroke just about all of my phones at some point or another as did many many others. There were never any continued side effects from doing it. A clean restore and it worked like new again.

Clean restores were not fixing my 6s plus or my wife's 6 plus that again, had never been jailbroken since I don't need most of those features anymore. But I guess it's not apples fault that those phones were so considerably slower than when they first debuted even though apple admitted they had slowed them down via software. Nope, it's my fault because I jailbroke my older iphones in the past. Yup, solid logic.

- Apple begins the throttling while the battery still reports as "Healthy" by Apple's diagnostics and they wouldn't replace it

This is the biggest issue for me and personally experienced. How can a phone with a clearly knackered battery, lasting a couple of hours at best, with its performance throttled (a new battery made a world of difference to me) be 83% healthy?
[doublepost=1515690193][/doublepost]
You forgot to add the Apple store staff telling people to upgrade because of their slow phones, even though it was Apples throttling that was slowing them down. Apple deliberately slows your phone down, doesn’t tell you this, but instead tells you to buy a new iPhone because your iPhone is slow after they also tell you your battery is perfectly fine and you cannot pay them for a replacement.
And this is an outrage.

They deserve more flak over this. And I hope the lawsuits get plenty of coverage.

Per post 466, Apple of course doesn't want you to jailbreak your iPhone because they lose control over it. Imagine being able to change the icon grid and place icons where you want. Oh, the horror of it. Meanwhile the end user with the JB phone has an improved experience. Apple can't allow that and it's no wonder they go to extremes to prevent it from happening with every new update, untill some smart techy people figure it out. I've never done it to any of my iPhones and don't plan on it.
As for what else Apple could do to remediate this, how about removing the throttle bug from my iphone 7? I'd prefer to not be throttled if my battery should drop below Apple's idea of efficiency, preferring to get a fix on my schedule, not theirs.
I thought I read some were experiencing throttling even when a weaker battery was plugged into the charger. How does this make any sense? Full power. It doesn't. If this is true it would seem they really want to get you into the store and once there they hope you buy something besides a battery swap.

To be fair there are those who jailbreak and it's all fine for them too.

The while jailbreak aspect of it seems to be rather moot in this case (and often enough many others). Not really sure why/how things have down that path.

Ask boltjames. He’s the one that decided the whole battery/throttle issue revolves around something that a very tiny percentage of iPhone users do.

Do you have any idea what is going on ?

The iPhone 7 is sold by Apple.

The above sentence shows you don't understand the issue or the models impacted.
