Just some really dumb questions that I want to make sure are normal about the my air.

1) When you move the screen forward, is it supposed to have a little little wiggle room back and move back a drop? I'm sure it does,

2) Also, the hinges that move the screen aren't aligned perfectly to the center piece below the screen. One is closer than the other. Is that normal?

Again, just stupid little questions I was curious about.

Other then that, this computer is amazing. Just took 3 tries to get it without the lines BUT once I did it is like night & day vs. the macbook screen!

thanks,

no that's not common, actually i have the same problem and apple will replace my screen, so that the hinges will be a lined perfectly.

I just hope that i'll have a 9cf8 panel again

is it worth correcting. I went to the apple store and they all look the same. My screen doesn't seem to be affected just noticed the hinge didn't look the same.

You need to just be happy and quit being so picky. You have an MBA without lines and works perfect. Be happy. It's a hinge. All of the hinges are made not to look beautiful. What matters is the use of the computer. It all works. The hinges are not perfect, but it doesn't affect performance. If there is a hinge problem, it affects all of the MBAs and Apple may need to fix if it breaks in future. That is a widely known/reported problem with MBA hinges. It doesn't mean that going through more MBAs will give you a perfect hinge, as all of the hinges are the same design.

I am thinking some people will just never be happy. Include photos if you have a real complaint that something is wrong. I feel you are being too picky. I don't know if my hinges looked perfect, but they worked. I never nitpicked to see if they had a little play in them or one had more or less spacing. My MBA just worked, it didn't have lines, it weighed three pounds, and I was ecstatic with it.

Not at all. I'm definitely happy! No problems here, just curious thats all. My screen is beautiful and I'm extremely pleased. I asked those questions because thats the point of these forums. You ask questions about issues you are curious about.

Anyway, it is a great computer and I recommend it to everyone.

While some people are excessively picky about aesthetics when it comes to their macs, I don't think you would be unjustified in complaining about a hinge that is slightly out of alignment. This is especially in relation to that fact that it's a Macbook Air, which is a notebook that is built as much for aesthetics as it is for portability. I would recommend that you attempt to get Apple to repair it. Who knows, the mis-alignment could cause even more problems down the road.

So...you're the only one who is allowed to complain about the MBA? Only the issues YOU deem worthy of "pickiness" are allowed to be discussed here?

I am absolutely a MacBook Air advocate. I have spoken out for the rev B MBA all of the time. Anyone is free to complain. I feel that anyone is fortunate to get an MBA without lines right now. I have complained more than anyone and spoke out against the original MBA. I encourage people to complain and not be happy with having to reapply thermal paste and undervolt their MBA in order for it to work properly without overheating and experiencing core shutdown and lockups.

If someone has a VALID complaint that makes sense and wants sympathy about the appearance AND NOT FUNCTION of the MBA, they should post a photo. If it's less than 1/1000 of a MM off, then I am not going to support a complaint. Some people are that picky. People absolutely go overboard. I feel everyone deserves an absolutely PERFECT MBA as they are paying THOUSANDS for it. Perfection is something that is subjective though. Someone who gets an MBA with lines on their display during normal use should complain. People that have a dent should complain. People that have overheating problems should complain, and NOT REAPPLY THERMAL PASTE OR INSTALL COOL BOOK. People that have a hinge that has one slightly different than the other by less than a mm should not complain unless it is obvious during normal viewing and or use.

Bottom line, have a complaint with appearance, SHOW A PHOTO rather than say it's slightly different.

I completely agree with perfection, but perfection is subjective. If there is a problem with functionality or design or build quality, absolutely complain!

When asking for sympathy, post a photo, or else nobody will believe it is of merit for complaining.

When returning an MBA for a slightly different hinge than another, I think the person risks getting a far inferior MBA with the level of imperfections in the recent MBA. Apple is to blame, but if someone wants an MBA right now, perhaps they need to pick their battles and forgive the MINOR SMALL THING of a slightly different hinge. Want to complain, go ahead. Want me to agree, post a photo.

I don't think I'm going to return it or attempt to get it fixed as of now at least. When I went to the apple store every MBA looked the same. The right hinge is slightly more to the right then the hinge on the left. It leaves a little more space between the hinge and the middle piece then the left hinge does but I don't think its an issue worth going to apple about. Again, I was just curious. My screen is stable and works fine but if down the road it breaks then I will go. It seems its more normal then not.

the only reason, why i complaint about the hinge is, upon opening the MBA screen, I hear a kind of rubbing sound and that's why I complaint and yes the hinges are not perfect. I my case if it would not make this sound every time i open the MBA, i would not have complaint, but unfortunately it does make that odd of a sound when i open it :(

and that's why my screen will be replaced in the next couple of days, i just hope that i get a perfect screen again with no lines (hopefully with the panel 9cf8 again).
