So i downloaded a sample 720p HD MKV file

check the quality superb qulaity!

so i was like hmmm how can i get this on dvd


So i went to Visual Hib and decided first its better if i use Apple TV to encode


so set it to apple tv forced quality to stay the same... then as for encoding set it to GO NUTS

it was a 30mb mkv so took 5 or so mins with 2 pass and interlace and bam it was done...

checked it same quality as original mkv infact the file was 2mb bigger

then i took the mp4 same setting and went to DVD

it worked superb quality... burnt to dvd HD on dvd


do you guys know of any other ways to put HD on DVD ???

Some correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you could have achieved this since the DVD standard does not support 720p resolution. You probably have just ended up with very good quality DVD at 480p(NTSC) or 576i(PAL).

u might be right .... not sure how to check but.. the original .mp4 was indeed 720p so it plays on apple tv in hd so much easier of a conversion then i thought

I'm assuming the OP didn't burn the DVD as a video disc, instead as a data disc. DVD's have 4.9GB average storage capacity. A 720p HD TV show for example, can be encoded to mp4 with a 3000kbps bitrate and be about 1GB in file size. Very close to true HD.

If you burned as a video disc, then it will be downscaled as said above.
