I've traded my 5s about 3 weeks ago for the M8 and I actually like it a lot it's very fast and smooth like the 5s but I do miss my 5s I miss iMessages and some of the iOS Apps. What y'all think about it?
I sold my 5S for a M8 then sold it for a S5, all my family have iphones but everyone has unlimited text plans so iMessage is not needed, i have a iPad and macbook so can use it on them if i want.
Wow. Almost every single person I know who has used an HTC One M8 and a Samsung Galaxy S5 and said the M8 is the farrrrrrrrrrr superior device. What made you go in the opposite direction?!
I am a big Apple fan and have heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. I always had iPhones, but when I saw the M8 I was impressed. I bought it, tried it for three weeks but then decided to go back to the iPhone. A couple of days later I started missing the big display, the great design of the M8 (which I believe to be better than the iPhone's), and this week I decided to get the M8 again!
I think I have iPhone fatigue, and the M8 is a great phone. It has great gestures that are much more than a gimmick, has a very good battery life and to be honest, yes it doesn't offer the same integration as the iPhone with my Mac, but 99% of the things I need to sync, I can do them with no issues.
Even Apps like 1Password are available (now in beta but coming on June 10th), so I can't really complain.
I use Exchange for Mail and I have found great apps on Android, like Nine, that look and work great, much better than the stock iPhone mail.app.
I don't know if I will go back to the iPhone when the iPhone 6 comes out. I might do that, but in the meantime I enjoy the M8. It's a great phone.
I also got the Dot view case, which works really well.
I love my M8. Love Sense OS and how efficient and memory resourceful it is compared to touchwiz (which uses nearly double the amount of ram at any given stage).
The camera is low res at 4mp - but it's not terrible. Indeed I'd argue I've taken better shots on it, than my Z2. There's certainly a tangible improvement over the M7 despite sticking to the same 4mp.
Certainly as a camera it doesn't match the S5 however.
Speed, fluidity, design coherence, continuity coupled with undoubtably imho the better looking of all the android phones i've owned this year so far, plus the great dot view case which I love - make it by far the best android handset so far for me 2014. It's negatives to me (mainly camera) are less of an issue than the negatives I've found for me on the other devices despite better cameras ....
I'm in general very happy with the M8 for it to remain my primary android phone ....
The S5 however is a fantastic phone overall too, just for me the fluidity of sense versus touchwiz in every day use was a bigger reason to keep the M8 over the S5. Had I not had access to another device for camera use however - I likely would have kept the S5.
My opinion is a little different from MRU but that's cool
For me, to put simply - I love using the HTC One M8 (love how smooth and respobsive the phone is), but I really dislike the inconsistent camera. It takes great macros but anything else needs more effort to get a decent photo. The Z2 on the other hand, is my Android phone of choice for it's camera, awesome battery life and solid build. I've dropped it at least 3 times and there isn't a scratch on it and I don't use a case, knock on wood.

You love it so much you will be trading it in soon
Or whatever you do with all those gadgets
M8 is only really a 4.5" screen because of onscreen buttons. S5 full 5.1"
.
I do have a plethora of choice that I can keep my M8
----------
The onscreen buttons don't take up that much space, and with many apps supporting immersive mode you do get the full 5".
I thought I'd hate onscreen buttons, but the difference of what you actually see on the display when you load an app side by side with the S5 is very small. Literally a line or two of text and that's it.
But do appreciate others preferring capacitive buttons rather than on screen so they get all the screen, all the time.
TW v Sense doesn't matter for me i use Nova launcher and after changing those settings in the S5 thread its fast and smooth, i am not that tech minded.

M8 notification light only blinks for 5 mins. Lightflow on S5 is great not on M8
Call quality and reception better on S5, on Australia biggest telco has a blue tick which is better for rural areas.
S5 is waterproof, lighter, shorter, not slippery, feels better to hold and no need for a case.
S5 better camera
The M8 screen is like 5S the screen can't be seen with polarised sunnys very well, i do a lot of driving and outside in Australia.
S5 has wireless charging
S5 Volume button and on and off buttons better positioned, not as touchy.
And i really like the big bright dialer pad on S5 i make a lot of calls. The M8 seemed to lag a touch when entering numbers.
M8 better speaker.
I had the S5 it's way to laggy, buggy, and the camera is not as good as I thought it would be. I usually love the Galaxy Series but the S5 was not how it should of been and it's Water resistant not Waterproof there's a difference. I haven't experienced no lag on the M8 at all and alot of people said the same.

Not if your M8 is rooted... You can buy in the play-store an app called "Hide Soft Keys". See it for yourself...
As you can see from this picture it auto hides the soft keys.

Here I took a screen shot watching a youtube video

You tap just right above the HTC logo and soft keys appear again...

*Samsung GALAXY S5 provides ingress protection against dust and water to a maximum of 1 metre for up to 30 minutes, allowing it to be certified to an IP67 rating. The back cover and USB port must be correctly sealed to protect against dust and water ingress.
Water proof enough for me.
You should of tried some of these Its a speed machine
Enable ART
Enable Developer Options
Disable all carrier bloat and Samsung nonsense
Change animation scale to .5
Force GPU rendering
Disable capacitive button lights. You know where to tap, even in the dark.
Set screen brightness to auto
Turn off any features you honestly don't use. Example: NFC, multi window.
Turn off auto app updates in the play store. Keeps bloatware garbage from being installed and activated automatically.
Add the active apps widget to your home and see when apps are starting to eat too many resources. When they become to much, open multi-tasking and close what you don't need.
Oh ok lol I liked the phone it's just that to go thru all that to make it faster and smoother I don't like that the M8 is fast and smooth out the box. I don't like rooting and putting roms on my phones anymore I stopped doing that over a year ago. But I really like the way it looks and the design of it and I like TouchWiz but I just wish it didn't have those issues.
