I purchased my iPhone at launch (current AT&T customer), attempted activation at 6:30PM PST, successfully activated via iTunes, and then waited 50+ hours for AT&T activation ("Waiting for ATT activation, this may take a moment..."), though it activated via iTunes and all of the non-voice/data functions worked. Tonight, frustrated beyond belief, I called A* for the n'th time and had them verify the SIM (ICCID) for my phone, and it was off by a single digit. After 2+ days of them telling me that it would be 12, 24, 48, and finally, 72 hours to activate due to a "backlog of activations" it activated within seconds of the correct SIM ID being entered into thir system. Three CSR's had previously refused to verify the ICCID due to the myth that all activation delays were due to the "activation backlog". I must have rebooted and reset/reflashed my iPhone 20 times in the last 2 days, not to mention the hours spent on hold and performing other mundane tasks as per the CSR's call.

It could have been a long time before they checked the details of my account if I nof for a very accommodating CSR (shocked by the discrepancy). The fact that it instantly activated refutes this BS about an enormous activation queue being to blame for the multi-day wait times for activation (at least for current AT&T customers). Check the details of your profile before believing that the wait is due to a backlog.

Hope this hepls some of those waiting for AT&T activation.
