Hi. I have just bought a 3GS from eBay that was 'faulty'.

The description went:

I bought this used phone yesterday as a Jailbroken 3GS 8GB. When I got it home I stupidly plugged it in to my laptop and downloaded the newest version of Software for the Iphone. I then remembered that you cannot update the software on a jailbroken Iphone. This phone needs to be jailbroken again but I have no idea how to do it. The photo shows the screen that keeps coming up when I turn the phone on. I have been told by a friend that it needs to just be jailbroken again to be activated.

Therefore selling as currently not working. Very good condition. Worked perfectly when my SIM was first put into it last night, before I plugged it into the laptop to update the software.

Now, this doesn't really add up as it is a new bootrom with firmware 06.15.00, which should never have worked. Right?

Just wanting to clarify this before I strip it for parts. I suppose the whole motherboard is pretty screwed at this point? Not happy.

Thanks a lot,

Luke.

Panic over. I have just used redsn0w to downgrade the base band. As far as I've read in the past it isn't possible, but it is. It's now running 05.13.04!

This being said, I now need to find what the carrier is for the phone. Is it possible to find this out without going to every single carrier and asking for a pay-as-you-go SIM and slotting it in? It would be nice to be able to either look it up, or get it unlocked so it just works.

Thanks,

Luke

Every phone can be updated to the newest, current firmware for that model via iTunes.
Doesn't matter if it is stock or jailbroken.
If jailbroken, the new firmware just overwrites the previous jailbreak leaving the phone stock again at conclusion.

Where in the world did you get such an idea ?

Jailbroken phones cannot do OTA firmware updates.
