Have i made a big no no?

So i ordered one of the new macbooks and just found out it won't actually be in hands for another 2/3 weeks which is waay too long for me...i need a computer for work.

I decided to find another computer as a temporary replacement. I went to the refurb store and decided to get the high end Air after all £720 had been shaved off the original price and there were no macbooks in sight only 17" MBPs, iMacs, Mac pros & XServes which don't work for me

I dont really intend to keep the Air for long as i personally think its too underpowered to be a main machine but i admire its design and screen and it seems sufficient for a temp replacement till my MacBook arrives. I plan to sell it once the macbook arrives unless i'm completely wowed by it

Anyway i heard about the core shutdown syndrome and wanted to find out if this issue still exists. i.e. am i gonna go through pain with this machine?. I'd like to be able to watch youtube videos and 720p videos occasionally (why not) but i'd mostly be using it to write up essays and surf the web

So has Apple fixed the shutdown issue or am i still going to need CoolBook?. Also how hard is it to re-install the OS...seeing as i have only 64GB (Real world 58-ish) i would want to reinstall to get rid of languages and un-necessary printer drivers. Does the remote install work well or is it terribly slow. Ideally i'd like to use this machine without any extra peripherals

Coolbook is cheap, effective, and is a one time solution and then it does its thing from then on. I have the base model with the slower 4200rpm hd, and I use it as my main computer powering my 24" Dell monitor at 1920x1200.

Yeah it doesn't have as much power as the other big dogs, but it will get the job done, does it well, with slight slow downs here and there, all while being a perfect weight and size.

The screen and feel of the unit and its ability to serve probably 90% of the populations computing needs makes it perfect for me.

Its good that there are multiple lines of laptops to suit the needs of varying people.

Reinstall is easy, find an external usb drive or figure out how to get your OSX cd onto a usb drive and the install flies.

So i do still have to use Coolbook...Apple hasnt fixed it?. Also would you mind posting or linking me to a quick guide on how to get Leopard on a USB drive (will a flash drive work as well)?

The core shutdown issue was fixed in 10.5.3, I believe. Instead of there being a huge latency when a core shuts down (and instead of the core bouncing on and off), they fixed the latency so it's barely noticeable, and the threshold for when the core turns off and turns back on has changed.

You're asking us to solve problems that you don't have. I installed the 10.5.3 fix and then to improve battery life I run CoolBook anyway.

I think the MBA would surprise many power users with its abilities. Many times I'll finish hours of Photoshop and look in amazement that it was all done on a MBA!

Turns out the order didnt actually cancel at Apple's servers so they Air came this morning and im not deciding whether to keep it or not. It's screen is superior and it's core hasnt shut down on me after playing two flash videos and visiting a flash heavy site. The fan is annoying though but its soo tempting

Right now im trying to reinstall Leopard over Airport but its not working. If i cant get it to work then i'll have to send it back
