I just got an iPhone 5S with 7.0.4 installed. Should I upgrade to iOS 9.3? I care about speed and smoothness, and so far iOS 7.0.4 has been pretty awesome in this regard. The bad thing is that I won't be able to restore my iPhone.

7.0.4 isnt exactly the best OS in terms of stability though. (7.1+ was awesome)
Anyhow, im on 9.3 on my 5S. It's ok for the most part though there are some weird stuttering that happens from time to time.

It all depends on whether or not you need the new features in 8 and 9.

Personally, I wouldn't. Download 7.1.2's ipsw. Best version to have on the 5s.. Unless you REALLY need the new features.

Ehhhhhhh, if smooth is priority don't update to 9.

If features and security is your priority then update to 9.

You WILL notice that 9 is more jittery and slower to navigate through iOS, but it's not terrible...

Do a search for what 8 and 9 brought to iOS before deciding if those features are worth it.

Unless I'm very mistaken, signing only affects downgrades. I might be wrong though!
If affects it all basically--only a signed version can be installed generally speaking, whether it's an upgrade or downgrade or anything else.

Well thanks for clarifying that ;)
The last time I had to do any sort of downgrade was way back in the days of iOS 4..

We have 4 iPhone 5S models in our house on the latest 9.2.x and they've been fine. Not sure about the beta 9.3 though. I would definitely get current either way.

9.3 is smooth as ass cheeks on the 5s. I was using the betas for a while on my 5s before I upgraded to a 6s which, too, is on 9.3 PB3.

Don't upgrade to 9.2.1 and wait until 9.3. 9.2.1 is stuttery as hell.

The people in this thread must not remember how unstable/slow 7.0 can be on 64-bit devices. It's not really a good version.
