Have new computer with iTunes, how do I sync iPhone?

I have transferred all media files to new iMac. The apps on the old computer hard drive have not been transferred. How do I sync for the first time with the new iMac an keep my apps?

I don't think theres a way to do this directly from iTunes itself but there are programs in Cydia that backup your apps and stuff so you can restore easily. Although maybe theres a file(s) that keep this information. If theres a file that keeps record of your backup then you would be able to transfer this file along with your backup to your new mac but i don't know if such a file exist so hopefully someone comes along and provides more help as that's all i know and can think about.

You can transfer your App Store apps from your iPhone to your Mac.
In iTunes, with your iPhone connected, ctrl+click on your device's name and select "Transfer purchases".

PS: in iTunes, make sure to authorise your Mac to your iTunes account.

Yes, I have done this. The iPhone sync is the last thing I haven't done. Nervous about it! Since I have authorized the iMac iTunes so that it is the same as the iPhone - then the app purchases on it should sync to the iMac, correct?

I just would hate to sync and the iMac write over the iPhone so there would be no apps. One nice thing (about the only one) with my old Palm Treo, was you could select each sync for the handheld device to overwrite the desktop data - or vice versa.

You say you did it, and then you say you didn't do it.
The apps will NOT sync from iPhone to iTunes, that's why I said to do the "Transfer purchases". This WILL transfer your apps from iPhone to iTunes.

On a Mac it's going to be Option+click.

Also, if this fails, just purchase the apps again from the AppStore. It will be free.

Good to know. The one app that I'm worried about losing is eWallet. It stores passwords for anything. I have 50 or so logged in with no desktop backup of it (Windows only and not willing to pay for it). I did do a screen capture of everyone and saved in iPhoto just in case. So I would imagine this will be lost?

Before plugging in your iPhone to your new Mac, in iTunes > Preferences > Devices > Disable automatic syncing.

Then, do the "Transfer Purchases".

Oh, well why didn't you just say right click then? I don't think I've ever used CTRL+click, I didn't even know it was the same as right click. And my first Mac was a 12" Powerbook ...
