Hi all

I’m thinking of buying the quad core i7 2012 MBP (A1398). The price is ok and it would be a comp for travelling.

However, there’s a few dents I’m wondering should I be wary, I’ve attached a couple screenshots. Also, not sure if it can be upgraded/swapped out at all…

Any advice would be great

I’m not certain what you’re asking. You have a 2012 i5 MBPro and you are thinking to replace it with an i7 model otherwise the same/similar? Probably not worth it.

Are you a retro Mac fan? Buying a 2012 Mac in 2024, where absolutely no modern software will run on it, it will choke on certain software of its era, and replacement parts are difficult to find requires a specific mindset…

If you want to "try" another MacBook Pro, I suggest you make it an Apple-refurbished 2021 MBP 14" ...
If he’s on a budget this might be more than he wants to spend. I would suggest a secondhand M1 MacBook Air. It’s more than powerful enough to run anything and you can get them cheap. I was going to say Apple refurbished, but their prices for M1 refurbished are ridiculous and more than on sale for new.

Thanks all

No, it really is just for backpacking. I’ve replaced the i5 with a 2019 which is fine, but that’s my main comp and the i7 I really just want for office and couple of others things tbh.

Main enquiry is are the dents/marks on the comp I’ve uploaded a sign of anything in particular for this model or similar? It’s going for about £90 so thought it was worth it for what I need, however, if those signs mean it’s gonna blow up, probably not.
