I've been out of the loop on iOS 10 lately, but I remember people were complaining about how ugly it looked if you didn't have a person's photo there from your contacts. Does it still look like that?
The font is also now thinner in beta 4.It was changed in an earlier beta. It now looks more inline with the rest of the OS.
Edit: you can see a comparison in this video at 6:50
At one point we couldn't even remove those until an update added that functionality. Perhaps that option will be added at some point (or be linked to the option for the messages list view).I just don't understand why we can't remove it. We can remove contact photos from the list view of messages, but not the thread itself.

What do you mean by 'remove contact photos'?I just don't understand why we can't remove it. We can remove contact photos from the list view of messages, but not the thread itself.
There's an option to remove those from being displayed in the Messages conversation list, but it doesn't apply to actual conversations themselves where in iOS 10 the contact photos (or initials) seem to be present there at the top. What do you mean by 'remove contact photos'?
Exactly what C DM said. In iOS 9, you can remove the photos or initials from the message thread list. The setting is located Settings -> Messages. This option is still available in iOS 10, but it only applies to the thread list view and not the individual conversation. What do you mean by 'remove contact photos'?
Found it! I'd never actually noticed this, thanks.Exactly what C DM said. In iOS 9, you can remove the photos or initials from the message thread list. The setting is located Settings -> Messages.
