I am so god damned confused now...

I have old apple id using my old email address
I have mobile me email that I have been using for several years now

All my app purchases are on old apple id.

I go to setup my phone, store account = old apple ID
Icloud account = old apple ID

Turn on icloud for email sync, says I can't and need to create an email. I don't want to create an email, I want to sync my old mobile me contacts from my old mobile me account as I will continue to use that email address.

WHY HOW COME SO CONFUSE?!?! I HATE :(

ICLOUD, Y U NO WORK???

The Apple ID page is down here at the moment. But you could check what happens when you change your old Apple ID to the MobileMe account you've been using. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40

After that, transfer the MobileMe account over to iCloud, and you should be able to use that account for everything.

You should be able to login to Mail, Contacts, Calendars with your @me.com account and then into "Store" using the Apple ID used for iTunes purchases.

Fortunately I never started using my @me.com email address and I "think" I can migrate and sync everything off my @me.com and on to my iTunes Apple ID.

Regardless, I can't believe how big of a headache this whole process has been so far (iMac, MBA, iPhone and an iPad)

SHould use your MobileMe address for everything in iCloud except the Store which you use your old apple ID

How will that affect my itunes match service? I would use my old apple ID for that right? But then wont all my music be stuck to my old apple ID account?

Damn I am so confused!

Actually,

It seems that itunes cloud features are COMPLETELY independent of the actual icloud service.

itunes match is not linked to my icloud account in any way it seems, nor does it hit my quota.
