This has come up two days in a row now, and it has just started. I haven't changed any settings anywhere. It is annoying and inconvenient, and I don't receive my mail until I do this.

I have an iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.2. My Apple ID is a gmail account. I use the native mail app on the iPhone. I also have an iPad mini which uses the native Apple mail app, and I use the gmail app on an iPad. All of these devices share the same apple ID. I access the gmail account via a Windows 10 computer as well. I have 2 step verification enabled on the gmail account.

When I access the gmail account with the iPhone, a popup comes up saying the password is missing and I tap settings. I am taken to the settings and I see the spot to re-enter the password. Once I do that, it seems OK for the day, then the next morning it happens again. I have had this happen before sporadically, but two days in a row...

I haven't changed any settings anywhere...what is the problem?

I can't remember if, in the past, I have used an app specific password. Entering my gmail account password does work, but it seems to only work for 24 hours on the iPhone. The iPads are not having any problem.

Yep I'm getting this as well, not sure why at all. One day it asked me to sign in to my Google account 5 times, weird. That was just one account, I have 3 google accounts and it's asked me at various times to resign in. It's even asked to resign with Hotmail/outlook accounts. This is on a 7+ with 10.0.3 and my Apple ID is my Hotmail address.

This is odd. Haven't had this for a couple of days now. I asked Google about it, and they were no help...suggested I allow permission for less secure apps. Well, no, I'm not going to do that. I have 2 step verification for a reason and it should work the way it is supposed to.

I have had app specific passwords set for my devices years ago. I played around with that a bit, revoked one for a device. Had to re enter a password for that device, but not an app specific password. There is nowhere in Apple's settings to enter such a thing. When Apple's settings ask to re-enter the password, you can't just type it in the space shown. When you tap on the spot where it says to enter the password, you get redirected to a google sign in. This is not what Google's directions say at all, so it is like they are not up to date as to how Apple devices work these days.

I guess it's one of those things of different software giants not playing nicely with each other.

Oh, and if I ignore the directions to go to settings, my gmail account manages to be accessed by the Apple mail app and it works just fine...so I don't know what to make of this.
