Have to travel 3G delivery day - Do I hang around a while to see if it arrives?

I have to head out of town on 3G delivery day, and would get on the road at 8am if it weren't when the long-awaited toy was showing up at the office. Because the delivery address is at work, it will get signed for if I'm there or not. Issue is, I can afford to delay til about 10:00 or 10:30, but past that, I've gotta run.

If I wait and it doesn't show, it's a very long depressing 4 hour drive. If it shows and the office calls once I'm on the road, it's a long depressing ride.

What to do, what to do.......
 
I think you should definitely wait for it, and if all possible cancel your travel plans.

If someone at the office signs for it and sees that it is from Apple, he might open it. :(
 
I am in the same quandary LOL. Do I wait for the FedEx guy to deliver the iPad to leave late or cancel trip and play with iPad all weekend in my pajamas :D

Do you have to cancel the whole trip? Can you leave after the 30th?
 
Unfortunately the trip is a 'Must Do", out of my control. Delaying is a little bit problematic, but recoverable. Not going isn't an option.

It will be delivered by early afternoon, but by 10:30? Maybe.

What is your experience with FedEx at your office location?
 
Guess it also depends what time the Fedex guy usually makes deliveries to your job. That will give you the best gauge in whether to wait or not.

Unfortunately we use UPS for all our outgoing, so we only get incoming Fedex, and their arrival time isn't consistent enough to make a call on it.
 
I haven't seen any confirmation that it will, in fact, be a 10:30AM delivery. Has someone read this somewhere? Or are we just assuming it will be a morning delivery?

I have a similar situation, where I will be home in the morning, but then leave that afternoon for a camping trip.

No, the time comes up because that's when he must leave.
 
I'd go do what I have to do, it's called being an adult.

FWIW, I think you should have a ham sandwich for lunch tomorrow. Oh and wear a blue shirt.

Actually I can wait until noon so that should be enough time since our fedex guy usually comes around 10:30am. We'll see. I do have to leave that day though but after 12 noon I have to decide.

As a side note, I realize this is pretty pathetic and I am ashamed. Beat me master.

If that's the worst of your problems, I'd say you're in pretty good shape! ;-)
 
This is ridiculous. Sheesh!

You know you can request that the package be held at the warehouse for a few days? And that you can request for it be delivered to another address (a relative, neighbor, or your own home!). Yes, it can be done. UPS is there to serve you. Lastly, why not ask one of your coworkers to hold onto the package until you return? You do have someone you can trust at work, no?

I'm not worried about it walking away or anything, I just want to play. The guy in the office next to me got the wifi version, and it's made choosing to wait even tougher.

Also - I was under the impression Fedex had these deliveries, not UPS.

I'm positive Fedex is equally flexible. In fact, I based my statement on my own experience with Fedex, betting that UPS has a similar policy when it comes to changing the deliver-to address after an item has been shipped. It really is no additional cost to them, so long as the alternate address is served by the same destination warehouse.

So you can't wait a day or two to "play with it"? Kids...I mean adults these days! Sigh...

Sorry, we're not all the pillars of strength you are.

I wasn't aware that wanting to actually use something you'd ordered and waited a couple months for was such an issue.
 
People say it will arrive by 10:30 am because it's shipped via Priority shipping.

When my iPhone was delivered by UPS, it was here before noon (I couldn't tell you the time, I was out before that.) And when my Time Capsule was delivered by FedEx, it was here by 8-8:30 am (I remember because I ran into the guy on my way to work.)

Both UPS and FedEx normally deliver in this area mid to late afternoon, but not for those 2 products.

Anyway, hope you like your iPad. I agree that the 3G model is the one to get. Too bad it is so overpriced! I'm not getting an iPad just yet, because I know I would hate myself for it when the next gen comes out. My gripes with the current version is low screen res (text does look washed out, to my eyes) and lack of a web cam. Especially the latter. I'd buy an iPad in a heartbeat for my 80 year old father (who hardly knows how to do the simplest of tasks on his Dell laptop, like checking email and navigating around Skype).

I liked the sound of it until the "or noon" part. No explanation. Kinda funny actually. "We'll do this. Or that."
