Anyone seen the ad where a "Sony Xperia Tablet Z" is running with the display on inside a fish tank? Next they spill something on the tablet then clean it under the tap then toss it into a gym bag with out bothering to put the tablet in a case.

People at Apple need to see this Sony ad.

Apple installs water sensors in their products so they can prove water damage and avoid in-warenty repair costs. Maybe they should follow Sony's lead and use the money on waterproofing and then have no need for the water sensors.

Lol I honestly don't care if a tablet is waterproof because I never use it anywhere near water. A water proof phone would be more interesting.

Idk why you're only bringing up Apple. Other companies do the same thing.

Sure, that's the commercial. Have you tried the actual product? From all the reviews I read the waterproofing is hit or miss at best.

I'm not interested in taking my very expensive, very necessary device underwater. I have an underwater camera for that. In order to make the phone be more than a parlor trick, Apple would need to spend some serious time re-designing the camera, the camera app and the casing. I'd rather they put that effort into other, more useful things. Splashproof would be nice, beyond that? Not worth it in my book.

I like to take my tablets into the ocean with me.

It's 2013 and some people still don't get it. Nothing is great unless Apple implements it.

Watch NFC explode next year on the iPhone 6. Even though some of us Android users been using it for years already.

I have NFC right on my credit card, so my first response is 'so what'? My second response is that where I am I have been able to use NFC exactly twice to pay for goods, and I have had my NFC credit card for years. NFC is a nice idea, but for making payments it will be obsolete before a sufficient number of stores implement it to make it worthwhile. Maybe NFC will be useful something else, but I think Bluetooth is better.

In any case, getting back to the thread.... I think a waterproof tablet is interesting because accidents happen. My kids have aced two iPhones with liquids (soft drink, perfume), and it'd be nice if phones and tablets were a little more robust to accidental spills.

Who says it is just for payments ? Ever heard about NFC tags ? Once you start using them, you don't want to go back .. Phones is in its car holder - it enables GPS, enables driving mode, starts satnav app etc., once on my night stand, it enables alarms, puts it on silent, disables GPS / Sync and wireless .. once in my bag - it enables sound, disables wireless and the list goes on :)

My point was when Apple implements NFC, it will become mainstream within a year. It's already rumored to come on the iPhone 6. No other company (not even Samsung) can make certain technologies popular so quickly.

M'eh, but I admit I do not have direct experience with NFC used this way.
