Office Open XML is the new format system introduced in MS Office 2007, as a replacement for the .doc, .xls, .ppt, etc files that have traditionally been created by Office.

Limited converters exist, including one for Word documents only for Mac users (a standalone tool -- it's not an Office 2004 inline translator, so the docs cannot be opened directly or saved in the new format). The OOo team are also at work on implementing it in OOo, and their preliminary converter is in NeoOffice as well.

Have you done any of the following:

  • Created a document in any Office Open XML format
  • Received a document from another user in one of these formats
  • Been asked by a collaborator, client, etc, to provide this format

Sorry, I made this poll and forgot to vote, myself! I haven't actually run into these formats yet, at work, and so I was wondering if people are starting to see them creep up?

Yes on the first two, but very rarely on the second one.

I've been using since its public release. My boss required our department (IT) to upgrade to Office 2007 + Vista as soon as it was in consumer hands, just in case... and we did install all the very handy (Windows-based) 2007 format converts as a standard install. EDIT: I should also mention that my default setting is set to Office 2003 format.

Third one... no, but I've been specifically asked not to provide it. ;)
