This is disgraceful.

I can't believe no one else has commented on this.

I am always understanding of bugs in a software release that is much different than its predecessor. Lot's of changes means much more potential for an undetected error to reach the final, tested release.

I was defending Apple for what I thought was excessive criticism of 5.0.

I myself never had the battery issue, so the iOS5 I have now on my 4S, and the same on my previous 4, were running perfectly. I understand other users really do have a battery issue, but I didn't think Apple's error in this regard was an indication of carelessness on their part.

5.0.1, however, is a different story. Very very small number of changes to be made, and yet a TON of different problems being reported.

In this case I do think Apple was careless in its release.

In my job we experience issues with new software all the time, so personally I never upgrade unless I have a reason to. I didn't upgrade to 501, and I'm sure glad I didn't. Still that's no excuse for Apple's carelessness.

Seems to be working just fine for me. Battery life is definitely improved for me with 5.0.1 compared to 5.0.

This is disgraceful.

have you looked back in the history of this and other forums, and seen how many similar threads exist after virtually every new product or OS version release, followed by the threads which proclaim "This is outrageous/unprecedented/disgraceful, this has never happened before!"

That's what's disgraceful.

There have always been problems with the new releases. And they generally get fixed to most people's satisfaction... and the rest end up going to Android for a while.

Either way, no, it's not disgraceful. For better or worse, it's a common cycle.

Not that I'm saying they're SHOULD be problems, but it happens and probably will continue to happen. And there will continue to be fixes forthcoming.

There's also a lot of people NOT having issues, but as is the pattern, those WITH issues think they can make a more valid case if they insist that EVERY iPhone out there is defective and OMG APPLE BETTER FIX THIS OR THEY'LL GO OUT OF BUSINESS.

Have you actually thought about the fact that people typically post in forums when they have a problem. The majority of people don't post in forums because their devices are OK. You shouldn't be assuming that just because there are several threads here that it's a widespread issue.

Or, many people just don't know any better. They are coming from phones that have abysmal battery life or non-smartphones. The people who are complaining are the ones that (a) previously had better battery life with 5.0 or 4.3 or (b) had an iphone 4 with better battery life.

That said, I think there's something to be said about the shear number of negative threads and news outlets reporting bad battery life. I also think it's unfortunate Apple's only completely successful launches have been the 3G and the 3GS. The first iPhone was plagued by Safari constantly crashing and bricked phones, iphone 4 had antenna issues, and now this.

To the OP, I had the battery issue and was furious after having such an awesome battery with the iP4. But since I promised it to my daughter, I was stuck until Apple could provide new hardware/software solution. I was hopeful it was a software issue, as many in here thought those of us with battery issues didn't know how to operate our devices. Thankfully, 5.0.1 fixed my problem, and I'm now happy again.

For me, I've had several frustrating issues with Apple. Batterygate (if you will). iPhoto deleted a ton of my photos when it was updated last year, etc. However, a good backup and patience is all that is required if you're an Apple user. They are very quick to release updates/fixes. I guess I understand the near impossible feat it would take to satisfy everyone with a single new release of software.

It is because of Apple's ability to fix these relatively minor annoyances that I stay true to the company. To say it is disgraceful is a bit over the top in my opinion. Many changes have been coming out of Cupertino software wise. To me the good outweighs the bad. Things will continue to improve...iPhones will not die this year.

I've owned every iteration of iPhone. And I'm not experiencing the battery life problem.

Not true either. The 3G and 3GS had issues with cracks forming on the plastic casing. It was particularly visible on the white models, but also could be detected on the black ones.

Additionally, the 3G and 3GS had issues with later versions of iPhone OS 2.x and 3.x, where the phone would freeze up repeatedly for a couple of seconds, and keyboard input would lag.

Yeah because whenever someone posts my iPhone is great people come in and flame them for being a fanboy

I'm sorry, but I maintain, that I seem to have noticed more threads complaining of 5.0.1 than there were about 5.0.

You're never going to have a perfect release, statistically speaking there will always be problems. The fact is, however, that five, six, or seven threads stating a problem, and a poll about 501 which has as many people dissatisfied as satisfied w, indicates to me a failure when the objective could be considered "easy".

4.x to 5.0 is would be be surprised at problems. But 5.0 to 5.0.1??? Come on.

Supporting Apple doesn't necissarily mean you're a fanboy. But saying it's okay to have that many arcane problem when the step is only a 0.0.1 increment? No way. Apple has to be blamed for that.
