Funny 7200 results ...

Though I'm probably not the only one telling people -- that a 7200RPM drive only spins fast. aka, marginally better seek times.

The cache will make a huge difference, if one drive has a bigger one -- it'll perform better. Because for small sub-8MB transfers -- it's all cache.

Some drives have more advanced mechanisms, these drives will have a mechanical advantage in transfer rate.

Otherwise all drives will operate around the same MB/sec in notebooks.

Get the bigger drive, get the bigger cache, and definitely buy the cooler drive.

In desktop drives, skip the desktop drives and buy an enterprise class drive -- they may be noisier. But so what, they just may last longer.

I used a friend's iBook G4 (12", 1ghz with 512 MB RAM) and it's weird, but it seemed to transfer files MUCH faster than my Thinkpad T43p (2.13ghz,2GB RAM, 80GB 7200RPM HDD)

I guess OS X transfers files faster than XP Pro? BTW, I'm on Mac forums because I'm buying a Macbook 2ghz hopefully :).
