Haven't Received Voicemail for Weeks

I haven't received a voicemail for weeks, but I know people have been leaving them. How can I force a voicemail re-check?

Can't you just call your voicemail instead of using Visual? Or is it saying no new messages?

I know this is a stupid question, but you have data, correct? You need data for visual voicemail.
