I just purchased the 2020 MacBook Pro 13 inch (Intel-16GB) this week and have encountered a number of problems. I'll just ask about one of the issues in this post. In my Messages app, when someone sends me a text with a link, I normally see the graphic and headlines of the story in the link. (In other words, I can see what the link is about without clicking it. If someone sends me a link to a Tweet, I see the Tweet). It has always functioned that way - and continues to post this way on my ipad and iphone. BUT my new MacBook Pro only shows the link - which means I have to click it to see it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I've synched everything and even enabled Messages in iCloud - but nothing works. When I check the same message on my ipad and iphone, they continue to show the graphic and text in the link on those devices - but NOT on my new MacBook Pro. (btw, my old MacBook Pro always showed the graphic and text).

I've run into so many "issues" with this new MacBook Pro that I don't know if this particular problem is "normal" in the new MacBook Pro or a bug. Can someone please offer some insight?

Seeing the preview is a nice feature for sure, and there's no setting that controls it. It works fine on my M1 MBA with Big Sur, but it depends on the format of the message. The difference is that if a link is sent as a standalone link, it works. If it's embedded into other text (text URL text format), it only shows the link. You can test this by sending both types to yourself.

Some people don't like the link preview feature, and it can easily be "disabled" in a message by adding a period on both sides of the URL (.macrumors.com.) or after the URL (macrumors.com.) Is there a chance that there's an ending period being added from your senders?

Here's a sample of both types. First one is within text, and the second is the URL alone:

No, it's not a problem with the way the person is sending the text.
When I look at the exact same text message on both my iphone and ipad - and even my old MacBook Pro, it shows the full preview with image.
The problem only occurs on my new MacBook Pro. :(

Maybe time for more details:
1. Which OS is your new MBP on?
2. Is it happening with more than one URL?
3. If you send yourself a message on your MBP with that URL, does anything change?
4. Does anything change if you sign out of Messages on your MBP and back in?

The OS is Big Sur. (They told me to update to Big Sur as soon as I got the laptop this week. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't).
No, it happens with any url that's sent in a text message to me. It only shows the link on my MBP - but continues to show the full preview & image on my iphone, ipad and old MBP.

If I send a link to myself - it arrives as a link without the preview/image.
I've tried signing out of Messages on the new MBP and back in, and it doesn't make a difference. :(

Thanks for the details. I'm stumped even after researching it for a while today. Maybe someone else can chime in with another suggestion.
