(first post ever, hoorah!)
I recently grabbed a mini TOSLINK to standard TOSLINK cable for my 2007 20" iMac, and for some reason I fear that the optical output on my iMac is broken. When I have nothing plugged into the iMac, my audio preferences default in the built-in speaker. When I have headphones/analog speakers plugged in, it defaults to headphones. When I plug in my optical cable? It defaults to headphones.
The optical output is listed in my hardware listing, but it doesn't see it in my sound preferences. Also, with or without a cable, there seems to be no light shining out of the port/cable, although the cable itself works great. I've tested it in multiple other devices with no issues. Also, it seems that my optical input works and autodetects everything just fine.
I've got Windows 7 Ultimate running on Boot Camp and I have the same issues on both partitions.
Has anybody come across this before? Or does anybody know how I might go about fixing it? I fear the worst and that my iMac might need to be repaired.
Any help is appreciated!
