I'm having difficulty connecting to a wifi network on my M1 MBP. I'm able to connect, but pages don't load, I'm not getting any data even though I'm connected to the network. The manager of the network instructed me to go to wifi settings, click on "details", then 'TCP/IP', open the menu for "Configure IPv4", then change the setting from "Using DCHP" to "Using DCHP with Manual Address." Then I input an IP address that he gave me and click 'OK'. Then I go back to settings and go through the same steps until I change "Configure IPv4" back to "Using DCHP." This gets the wifi working, but only sometimes. I often have to repeat that absurd process five or more times for it to work. And eventually it stops working again and I have to do it all over. I notice that, when it stops working, the IP address has switched back from the one I selected to a different one. This is all extremely time-consuming and I'm wondering if there's a more reliable way to fix the issue.

I'm able to connect to this network with my iPhone and a Linux laptop with no issues, so whatever is causing it is specific to the macbook. My MBP has never had this issue on any other wifi network, it always works without issues.

Some general info on the type of network you're having a problem with could be helpful, i.e. private, school, government, corporate.

You might try forgetting that network and then setting it up again. If that fails, consider resetting all network settings.

It's at a small mom-and-pop hotel, where the manager seems to think he can do everything himself. Evidently not the case with network management. At least I won't be dealing with this wifi for much longer...

Thanks, I'll try this and report back.

Did you leave Private Wi-Fi OFF when you rebooted?
No, I had set it back to "Rotating" when that didn't fix the issue. The reboot didn't fix it either, it's still the same, just working intermittently. Furthermore, that DCHP fix that the manager gave me doesn't do anything, it was just by coincidence that the wifi started working after I tried it the first time. Apparently it just starts and stops randomly, for no evident reason. Even when I'm sitting right next to the router, with the wifi working consistently on my iPhone and Linux laptop. Go figure. Anyway, I'm leaving this hotel in two days, so it might have to remain a mystery.

A lot of Wi-Fi have issues with rotating, I've got all mine on Fixed, especially at home so I can manage and keep track of everything. Their Wi-Fi could also have issues with the Rotating.

I do notice the IP address changing randomly. Maybe there's one in particular that works, and it stops working when it rotates to a bad one. The next time it's working, I'll try changing it to "Fixed" and see if that makes it consistent.
