let's make this simple

My iMac did not come with Snow Leopard. It is a 24" late 2008. I bought Snow Leopard from Apple and installed it on the Mac and everything was fine until my HD failed about six months later.

I want my mouse to work properly (neither the original keyboard mouse nor my wireless work properly any longer).

Is there any trick to just pulling the Snow Leopard disc out and slipping it in for a reinstall? Is it that simple or will I lose anything such as software added.

To reinstall the OS you need to start with the disc in the optical drive and hol down the c key while booting.
To avoid losing you user setting DON'T erase and install.

Before doing the reinstall have you tried to download the updates?
Apple menu software update...

Check in the System preferences how the mouse and keyboard are set up?

How did you recover the hard drive?

Yes, i have downloaded all the updates. I had a new HD installed to replace the old one. However, this problem only occurred several weeks after the HD install. It was working fine. I tried plugging in the original UBS keyboard with attached mouse but same issue.

It is clearly in the settings for the mouse or Safari. You can left click on Safari or links and it works fine. It's just trying to open an App you need to right click and then click open rather than it popping open like it use to.

There are not that many settings to a wireless mouse and I've tried each one.

I am not fully understanding what the issue is, can you please explain it one more time?

To open an application you can do it in several ways:
- double click on it's icon
- right click and then open
- to right click you can either with a mouse that has the right click, or left click while holdin the command key ( it has to be enabled in the mouse settings via System Preferences)
- select File menu, then open
- use spotlight ( tiny magnifying glass icon in the menu bar)
- write the app name and it will show up there, then just click its name or use the keys to go down and enter
- press space bar and command and your cursor will be in the spotlight field, and do as above

Most of these have to be enable in the System Preferences

Some Apple mouses, I mean the recent ones are cabale of right clicking even there is no visible button on it.

The issue is one of opening applications icons within the finder menu from the dock. I use to be able to open Finder, click on an application and the application would automatically open. Now when I open Finder and click on the application menu nothing happens. I have to right click which opens a smaller window and click on the 'open' to get the App to open.

On the dock I can open any icon with a simple one click of the mouse. In Safari i can open links with one click. However, when attempting to open items such as bookmarks within Safari I use to be able to click on the bookmarks bar and locate the bookmark link, one click, and the bookmark would open.

Now, however, when I open bookmarks and one click, nothing happens except to open the bookmark as if I were to trying to edit. I have to right click now which opens a tiny window and you click on the option to open the bookmark. That step was not previously required.

It is a wireless mouse and keyboard from Apple (two batteries in each) that was purchased over about two years ago. The same thing now happens with the UBS keyboard and mouse that came standard with the iMac.
