I have a bad feeling my hard drive has bit the dust. I was having problems so I restored my iPod. After that an error message showed up saying to restore or restart my iPod and try again. Now whenever I plug it into my computer, it doesn't show up anywhere. It doesn't register in iTunes or in my Finder. The screen of the iPod is now black and white and says "Do not disconnect". I believe this is Disc Mode? Anyone have any solutions? I've looked everywhere and haven't found anything. Thanks for any help!

Try discharging your iPod completely, then let it charge fully. This is a complete shutdown that's not possible even with the Menu + Center Button combination. This has revived two iPods I've had. When the iPod is fully charged, see if it works or try another restore (if possible). Even if the iPod is just a bit out of warranty, sometimes Apple will fix it for you.

If you truly believe the hard drive is dead, you can find replacement hard drives on eBay and iFixIt.com, but it's not for the faint-hearted.
