Having trouble connecting 3G to computer

So I have a bit of an odd problem. My stepfather's iPhone 3G won't connect to his new computer. iTunes is installed and updated, yet when we plug his phone in, it doesn't recognize anything. Windows isn't even recognizing it. Here's the strange thing. When we plug MY iPhone 3G into HIS computer, it connects just fine, AND when we plug HIS iPhone 3G into MY computer, once again it works just fine.

Does anyone have ANY idea what could be going on here?

You probably haven't got a response because no one knows what to tell you. It could be his dock connection is bad. You might also try a DFU restore
